La Petite Cour Lille is the only restaurant in Lille that I visited twice during my 2.5 weeks there. First I went alone and at the second visit, my colleague suggested it and so I thought why not.
Restaurant interior looks as if it was makeshift out of an alley between two buildings. You will understand when you visit the restaurant. Colours was funky and in some way weird. I wouldn’t describe the restaurant as cosy.
Even the menu has its character. The cover were from album of ABBA and many more from that era.
If by now you are wondering what they serve, I am not surprise. La Petite Cour Lille offers a menu of classic French food.
At La Petite Cour, a dish of Olive paste was served with some Baguette. Even my colleague who don’t like Olive love this paste.
For dinner, there was 3-course set menu with 2 appetitisers options. It seems the menu changes on a monthly basis. In February 2018, the first appetitiser was Croquant de Maroilles, pan-fried cheese wrap. If you love cheese, you will enjoy. Paired with pickles to reduce the cloying feel of cheese.
Os a Moelle was the second option. Basically, these are Bone Marrow. It was a little too bland hence salt was needed.
Piece de boeuf Angus was a 2 tiny piece of beef steak on a long white plate, sandwiched by pickle and grilled cherry tomato on each side. The beef was challenging for my jaw. However, I love the fries.
Grosses gambas roties a l’huile was the second Main selection offered on the set menu. A huge serving of flavourful creamy risotto with some prawn broth in it too. Topped with 3 large prawns.
Magret de canard sauce pimentee au chocolat, puree de patates douces (€20) was an ala carte order. Meat was with medium doneness, tasty with the sauce. Side was pumpkin mash though we will prefer having it with fries. In fact, we requested for fries to go along, however our request was not fulfilled.
For dessert, on the set menu, there were 3 choices. We tried the Brioche facon pain-perdu. Though delicious, however, we felt this is a better dish for brunch. The pan-fried Brioche akin to French Toast was sat on a generous amount of Salted Caramel sauce.
Gateau aux noix was a nutty dense pie which filled my stomach quickly.
NAHMJ Verdict
In a nutshell, food was decent but what wow me more was the friendly service crew who tried their best to explain to us in English, despite a small hiccup.
