Bonta Bonta is one of the 16 restaurants at Japan Food Town. According to the website of Japan Food Town, Bonta Bonta has their own Rice Sommelier, who will select the best rice for the restaurant. Since the official rice used at Japan Food Town is Kinme mai, not sure if they still does that for the restaurant in Singapore.
At this restaurant, they specialise in Onigiri, Rice Ball.
Comparatively, even though Bonta Bonta has a capacity of only 12 seats, there isn’t a need to queue.
On all tables, condiments such as salt & pepper, soya sauce, chilli powder, bonito flakes and sesame seed are within reach.
Besides the fame Onigiri Rice Ball, there are various rice set and we ahead to try the Grilled Beef ($28) and Unagi ($21).
When the food were on the table, we were surprised to find the reasonably huge portion of meat. We find the food tasty.
Within the set served, there are 4 ingredients for mixing with the rice to create a more flavour. Personally, I find them too little for my huge bowl.
And on the table, there is an instruction telling diners how to enjoy the food at Bonta Bonta.
I thought the Dashi was at the perfect level of salt. To my surprise, my friend find it salty. Looks like for those who have low salt tolerance may feel so.
I tried adding my rice with Dashi and I find it too bland.
NAHMJ Verdict
Our final thoughts? The pricing at Bonta Bonta is reasonable at the portion of food they serve. Food is tasty and we enjoyed. However for the extremely light palate, they might find the food salty. But we think, generally, most will find it just right.
