I chose Novotel Strasbourg Centre Halles Hotel based on a handful of criteria. Thinking that the attractions at Strasbourg are concentrated on the isle, I though a hotel that is at the edge will be best. Moreover, walking from the train station to the edge is about 10 minutes which is a reasonable time frame.
A few other hotels that fit this criteria are Hotel ibis Strasbourg Centre Petite France, Hotel Mercure Strasbourg Centre Petite France, Hôtel Le Grillon. After comparing the price, reading reviews and looking at the photos of the rooms, I decided Novotel Strasbourg Centre Halles Hotel.
Surrounding
Located right beside the shopping mall, Place de Halles and it is about 10 minutes to TGV station by foot. In front of the hotel is the tram station which will transport passengers to the train station and to the centre of the city too, making it an extremely convenient location for tourist.
Lobby
Nothing lavish in the lobby. Some may even find the design out-dated. Everything was solely functional.
Checking In and Out
I was extremely please with the speed and of all the English language competency of the staff at the check-in and out counter. Most of them speak fluently and one of them is exceptional.
Room
I booked a Classic Room, 25 m2, consisted of 1 double bed and 1 double sofa; it can accommodate up to 4 adults.
In addition, there is a working desk, air conditioning temperature control. The windows can be opened. The door has Dead bolt.

Bathroom
The bathroom was relatively spacious; at the very least, I don’t find it a challenge to move around.
No bathtub, solely the shower area. A pity, I could bring down the shower; it is fixated on the wall. Furthermore, the height wasn’t adjustable. What I like is that there is a placeholder for guest to place their required toiletries in the shower area. This is an extremely practical feature.
The hotel offered minimal toiletries with shampoo, conditioner and soap.
View from room
View from my room is facing the canal and architecture. With yellowish and green hue trees cum blue sky with clouds makes the best scenery for Autumn.
Housekeeping
I didn’t spot any left-over hair or extremely dusty corner. It look spick and span. Rather pleased.
F&B
Only 1 cafe and 1 bar available in this hotel; Novotel Cafe and Bar.
Breakfast
Breakfast at the hotel is at Novotel Cafe, located at the lobby. The offering was comprehensive with several types of bread and pastries, different fruits, cereals, a few types of cheese, eggs and numerous juices and coffee (WMF and Nespresso) and Kusmi Tea. Comparing to the breakfast at Novotel Suites Gare Lille Europe, it has much more choices.
Facilities
No spa and swimming pool. Only computer terminal with Wifi access is provided at the lobby for guests. A printer is available too.
Other Services
The usual luggage storage, laundry and 24-hour room services were available at the hotel.
Price
I booked through booking.com at xx. Hence I couldn’t get points for my Accor Hotel membership.
NAHMJ Verdict
Despite the disappointing facade, the room of Novotel Strasbourg Centre Halles Hotel is comfortable and quiet. Accessible to the train station by foot and close to the major attractions make it convenient for short stay. Furthermore, the rooms are quiet and cosy, I will recommend the hotel.
