Crystal Jade Jiang Nan has been at this presence unit at VivoCity for a good number of years, however, I never have the chance till after their renovation to a chic and modern interior. I prefer the new design.
Though interior might have changed, the concept remains, focusing on Jiang Nan cuisine. In addition, Sichuan specialties are on the menu as well. The menu is specially crafted by Group Executive Chef Martin Foo.
Three Delicacies Platter 巧手三拼 ($16.80), a great choice to start the meal with multi-flavour of Jiang Nan. First is the chilled Nanjing salted duck slices 南京咸水鸭 followed by the Chilled spinach and fresh lily bulbs with sesame sauce 菠菜鲜百合 and Jiangsu smoked fish 江苏熏鱼. Among the three items, most love the smoked fish. This remains me of the Shanahiness Smoked Fish which has a similar taste profile.
Cheesy Crsip Mochi Ball ($10.80 / 6pcs) may not be a dish of Jiangnan or Sichuan region, however, it was part of the menu to cater to different needs. Especially when dinning with kids, this would be an option. The crispy, sketchable cheese ball are lightly sweetened among the savoury sense. Personally, I would skip this dish.
Steamed Yellow Croaker with Chinese Wine ($28.80/portion, 400g) steamed to perfection with Chinese Wine, higly aromatic, retaining the freshness of the catch.
Rejoice Mala fan, instead of having only boring crispy roasted chicken, Crystal Jade Jiang Nan offered Mala Crispy Roasted Chicken 麻辣脆皮烧鸡 ($15.80/half, $29.80/whole) instead.
Moving on to crowd favourite, tasty Sauteed Dried Shrimp and Vermicelli with Cabbage 虾米粉丝包菜 ($13.80) which is loved by both the old and the young. A must order to satisfy both the discerning palate and hunger stomach.
Instead of having the usual fried rice, try the Crystal Jade Yangzhou Fried “Rice Shaped Pasta” 米形意粉，翡翠扬州炒饭 ($16.80). This dish is equally tasty with a similar texture as rice, except that it is smoother. I won’t suspect it wasn’t the Jasmine Fragrance Rice if I wasn’t told.
Finally, for dessert, two worthy options. First is the nourishing lightly saccharine Double-boiled Snow Pear with Osmanthus 桂花炖雪梨 ($7.80 per person).
Alternatively or should you want more dessert, Souffle Egg White Ball stuffed Red Bean and Banana 高利香蕉豆沙 ($8.80 for 3), a classic dessert.
I love the revamped interior of Crystal Jade Jiang Nan and a handful of dishes truly impressed. It is the place for a hearty meal with family and friends.
