When I see the menu of The Affogato Bar, it reminds me of Two Men Bagel in Singapore and Sumerian in Shanghai. Both offers Bagel though neither offer Affogato. Situated at Cluny Court along Bukit Timah Road with Botanic Gardens Station a few steps away, hence it is extremely convenient for most to reach the cafe.
The entire feel of the cafe is modern and sleek. It has some industrial element as there are some concrete features and naked lightbulbs. All the various fixture blended together well resulting in a pleasant ambience.
Being a Affogato Bar, of course this is the main item offered on the menu. But before desserts, Mains come first. They offer largely Bagels with Seasalt, Multi-grains, Sesame and Plain. Each is priced at $2.90. For a more economical pricing get it for 6 at $15.90.
Similar to the Bagel House at Icon Village, The Affogato Bar offers various Bagel Sandwiches on their menu to; with King Salmon ($16.90), Deli Beef ($14.90), Smoked Chicken ($13.990), Eggs & Onions ($10.90). Lastly was the recommended Breakfast Club ($12.90). This was my choice.
The Breakfast Club reminds me of the simple sandwiches my Mom used to make for us when we were kids. In it were cooked ham and hard-boiled egg with cheese and bechamel sauce. And look at the amount of vegetables, making it look much healthier.
At The Affogato Bar, they offer Dimattina Coffee from Melbourne, Australia. As always, Cappuccino ($5) was what I ordered. Oh my!! I love their coffee. A cup of low acidity, full body filled with nuttiness and largely dark chocolate finishes.
If coffee isn’t for you, try their Premium Chocolate drink from West Coast Cocoa, a New Zealand brand. Or try their XO Tea orignated from Perth Australia.
Lastly, of course has to be their Affogato. Among the list, categorised by Signature and Standard; each has a recommended item. I tried the Death By Chocolate ($13.90) from the Signature section. Berries filled in the medium acidity and full body espresso when poured over the chocolate ice cream, brownies and chocolate was yet another experience. Pleasantly smooth and overall was lightly sweetened.
NAHMJ Verdict
With The Affogato Bar offering a rather different menu NAHMJ thought it offered an invigorating vibe to the Singapore cafe scene.
