My first encounter of Poke Bowl was at Aloha Poke first outlet located at the conservation shophouse at Amoy Street. That experience was simply love at first bite. Aloha Poke @ Bugis Junction is their fourth outlet.
Strategically located outside the gym and with offices near them, they are set to attract these crowd, intending to provide them with healthy meal.
At this outlet, it is mainly for takeaway, though they do offer a few seats for diners who prefer dining in.
We were treated to a performance of Aloha Poke Corporate Chef, Michael, who grew with them since day 1 of their operation. Michael separated the Salmon meat from the bone with ease. Deceivingly, making it seems an easy job. On the contrary, to an amateur, it is a grueling task.
In case you have yet try any Poke Bowl, ordering is simple. First decide on the size which determines the number of scoop of fish. Next select the type of fish and its seasoning. Seasonal flavours are available daily. Check on the board or inquire with the service crew. Next decide on the type of base and toppings. Check all your choices on the chit and do remember to put your name down too.
Finally, pass the chit and make payment at the cashier and wait for your name to be called.
Within 10 minutes, that’s the commitment from the team, you get to enjoy your customised Poke Bowl.
In case you are wondering what’s in my Big Kahuna ($19.90), that contains 3 scoops of Poke, Spicy Tuna, Mentaiko Salmon and Wasabi Salmon with Rice Mix (White and Brown rice). Topped it with Flying Fish Roe and Cucumber and Pumpkin Seeds and Avocado for the superfood.
Should you don’t feel like choosing your option, you could opt for either the Standard Nalu Tuna and Standard Nalu Salmon.
Coconut Water ($5.90), Cold Press ($5.90), Naked Water ($3.90), Beer ($14) and Cider ($15) are available for drinks.
NAHMJ Verdict
I was glad that Aloha Poke tasted as good as it started out at Amoy Street.
