A Brand New Menu By Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant was curated by award-winning Executive Chinese Chef Brian Wong to celebrate the re-opening of the newly refurbished Wan Hao Restaurant at Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel.

 

Before we dive into the Brand New Menu By Wan Hao, we have to recommend these exquisite Dim Sum to all, even though 2 out of the 3 are not part of the new menu.

First is the Crispy Mango Prawn in Rice Roll 香芒鲜虾脆肠粉. It is an adaptation from the Hong Kong Crispy Roll in Rice Roll. With mango and prawn added, the flavour was elevated to multiple levels. Next is the Steamed Shrimp Dumpling with Black Truffle and Cordyceps Flower 黑菌虫草花鲜虾饺. Truffle scent was strong to savour.

In this brand new menu by Wan Hao, creation are with superior lavish ingredients. We were honoured to try a few of them.

 

 

Dim Sum

 

First is the luxurious Deep-fried Taro Dumpling 精制鲍鱼炸芋头. This dish was absolutely superb. Yam flavour burst in the mouth at first bite with the sweetness of scallop mingling together create a symphony of flavours.

Soup

 

Closely followed by the soup, Stewed Bird’s Nest with Egg White, Crab Meat and Superior Soup 芙蓉蟹肉干烧燕窝另附高汤. Service crew specifically instructed us not to pour the soup into the dish of brid’s nest, egg white and crab meat.

We felt this is certainly the ultimate dish of the brand new menu by Wan Hao. The light sweetness of the egg white, the bird nest and light sea flavour of the crab meat blended together creating such a wonderful combination of flavours and smooth texture. We truly enjoyed the dish to the max, finishing even to the last drop of ingredient.

 

 

Main Course

 

Beginning with Prawn with Black Truffle Mayonnaise, Broccoli 黑松露蛋黄酱伴炸虾球 as our first main course. We love both the ingredients prawn and truffle. The prawns on this dish were huge and succulent. But somehow, perhaps due to too much sweetness from the mayonnaise, we weren’t too appealed to the overall flavour profile. We wouldn’t mind having solely the deep fried prawns.

Followed closely was the Wok-fried Iberico Pork with Home-style Spice Sauce 故乡将爆炒黑豚肉. Rich piquant home-style sauce with the sweetish capsicum no doubt enriched the taste experience.

After all the luscious delectable dishes, we ended the night with our light flavoured last main, the Braised Japanese Ramen with Lobster Meat in Superior Soup 浓汤龙虾球日本拉面. It was a dish of natural tasting soft to the bite ramen resting in a flavoursome superior soup that was a little too bland for our palate. Hence we didn’t enjoy as much as we did with this dish. Somehow, it was a little anti-climax.

Nonetheless, this dish would definitely find favour with the light palate.

 

 

Desserts

 

Finally, time for desserts. We tried 2 desserts. First was the Crispy Durian 酥炸黄金果.

Durian lovers rejoice. Though the durian peak period was over, you can still enjoy this creamy fruit as the Crispy Durian, available in the Brand New Menu By Wan Hao. The lustful durian puree is encased in a crispy golden brown batter. The entire experience was almost as good as eating the real fruit as one could feel the fibre in it.

Should durian is not for you, turn to the Chilled Coconut Pudding with Purple Glutinous Rice Sauce 紫糯米椰子冻. Though it was closed to the classic Chinese dessert but it certainly captured our hearts.

 

 

NAHMJ Verdict

 

It is one of the rare time that I find almost all dishes perfect. Most of the dishes from the Brand New Menu By Wan Hao were on point with near to flawless execution. It is certainly a Cantonese Restaurant which we would highly recommend to all, especially if you desire high standard quality delicious food.
