“Helmed by Indonesian-born Chef Selamat Susanto, the menu at Fat Chap is distinctly Asian, served with a hint of nostalgia.”

They have a variety of menu such as the healthy multigrains, weekend happy hour with beers and cocktails, generous platters for sharing. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner! Located in the heart of Suntec city (Tower 4), be spoilt for choice with their wide selection of meals to cater for different occasions. It gets even more convenient if you are working nearby. Be it lunch hour or after work chill hours, Fat Chap is the to-go choice.

One word about their menu I could describe is “Shiok”. If you a chilli lover, you will definitely fall head over heels with their chilli! It has this nyonya peranakan flavor in their dishes as well as chilli sauce. Very Asian and HOT!

We will showcase some of their delectable dishes as per below!

MORNINGS

BAKMIE GORENG – S$ 15

Sunny side up, acar, prawn crackers

For breakfast, how does “BAKMIE GORENG” sound?

Sunny side up has the flowy egg yolk that enriches the stir fried goreng immensely. The stir fried goreng wasn’t the usual oily type so good job for that. Acar gave the dish a refreshing touch and of course prawn crackers are best paired with their sambal chilli sauce! This is good if you are looking for a hearty breakfast or something like a go between your breakfast and lunch.

MAINS

ASAM PEDAS – S$ 19

Raymond’s farm golden snapper, okra, tomato, Vietnamese mint

Fish meat was a generous one. Very soft and fleshy. The Asam exudes a nyonya charisma. Not too spicy and will suit many of us. It reminds me of the kind of Asam my grandmother used to cook. A heartwarming home-cook dish. We could even finish the asam gravy. It was that awesome.

OXTAIL SOUP – S$20

Potato carrot, tomato, belinjo crackers, green chilli, jasmine rice

Also another heartwarming soup, rich stock and quality ingredients. Indulge in this nutrition packed soup with a bowl of fragrant jasmine rice. Does it sound like what mothers will cook for a tonic meal?

These main dishes are truly appetizing and flavourful. Best enjoyed piping hot with rice! Lunch or dinner are just fine.

SHARING PLATTERS

Land and Sea Party (Suitable for 4-5 Pax) – S$ 168

Balinese half pork rib, kampong half chicken, marinated fish, squid, ocean beef ribeye, lamb ribs with Balinese sea salt, yuzu kosho, duo sambal, lemongrass & shallot relish, lime, fresh vegetables, grilled corn on cob

If you are dining with a group and would like to try abit of everything, then platters are great. They go very well with beer and drinks too.

The ribs were nicely marinated, soft and tender. Seafood were fresh and perfectly seasoned. Fish meat was really soft and fresh. However, the chicken was abit too dry for our palate. This combines both land (Mostly red meat) and Sea (Seafood). So it’s a good combination and a nice serving for groups. Besides the meaty meat, there are vegetables and corn to balance things up. So great. For the quality ingredients, I would say its value for money.

Fat Chap Serving Nostalgia Asian Dishes - Land and Sea Party (S$ 168)

SNACKS

CRISPY CHICKEN SKIN – S$ 8

Do we need to go further about crispy chicken skin? Golden brown deep fried, dipped with plum chilli was a thumbs up! Great on its own while waiting for your delectable dishes or a companion for your drinks! Your choice!

Fat Chap Serving Nostalgia Asian Dishes - Crispy Chicken Skin (S$ 8)

DESSERT

KLAPERTART – S$ 12

Coconut custard, almond flakes, rum & raisins ice cream

We know the food here is captivating but please save some space for dessert. Because, it’s worth your calories.

A strong and rich rum & raisin flavoured ice cream with every scoop. Coconut custard and almond flakes complemented the alcoholic taste. It’s interesting that coconut was paired with rum. A creative innovation that won our hearts. Hence, a must try!

Fat Chap Serving Nostalgia Asian Dishes - KLAPERTART (S$ 12)

NAHMJ VERDICT

Every dish is so good you may have a hard time deciding what to eat!

But fret not, it will definitely be a satisfying and shiok meal. Prepare your taste buds and stomach for a heartwarming tummy time at Fat Chap!

Lou You was originally known as Ipoh Lou You Beansprout Chicken; offered only the Ipoh Hor and Chicken Rice. With the re-branding, the team introduced various famous Malaysian dishes to the menu. Besides their current popular item, diners may find their favourite Malaysian dish at Lou You. Therefore, diners are spoilt for choices. The first outlet with the brand new menu is at Bedok Mall.

This was my first visit to the outlet at Bedok Mall hence I don’t know if there are any change to the interior after the re-branding. But I like the old-school interior.

Lou You 老友, Re-branded With New Dishes From Various Part Of Malaysia At Bedok Mall - A view

Lou You 老友, Re-branded With New Dishes From Various Part Of Malaysia At Bedok Mall - Feast

Kick-off the meal with some sides for sharing. We started with three deep-fried items. First is the Penang Lor Bak 槟城卤肉 ($4.50), somewhat similar to our local Ngoh Hiang but it has chunky meat instead of minced ones. Next is the unassuming Handmade Fried Meat Ball 手打炸肉丸 ($4). I was surprised that it tasted as good as the former. In it were minced meat, it wasn’t the chewy processed meat ball that are over the supermarket freezer counter. Lastly was the Fried Dumpling; crispy with a large chunky of tasty fish paste.

Lou You 老友, Re-branded With New Dishes From Various Part Of Malaysia At Bedok Mall - Sides

Lou You 老友, Re-branded With New Dishes From Various Part Of Malaysia At Bedok Mall - Sarawak 'Bien Nuik' Soup 沙捞越扁肉汤 ($5.50)

Per the name, Sarawak ‘Bien Nuik’ Soup 沙捞越扁肉汤 ($5.50), one must have guessed the source. It has an acquired taste which maybe unacceptable to some. Though I love the taste, I didn’t relish on the texture, in particular the skin wrap.

Lou You 老友, Re-branded With New Dishes From Various Part Of Malaysia At Bedok Mall - Assam Laksa 亚参叻沙 ($7.50)

Lou You 老友, Re-branded With New Dishes From Various Part Of Malaysia At Bedok Mall - Noodle in Assam Laksa

Assam Laksa 亚参叻沙 ($7.50), originated from Penang, is another item that either you love it or you avoid it. Belong to the former, I find this bowl of sourish and spicy soup pretty authentic. It has a pungent sardine flavour which emit the moment it landed on the palate.

Lou You 老友, Re-branded With New Dishes From Various Part Of Malaysia At Bedok Mall - Mee Tai Mak 砂锅米苔目 ($7.50)

Lou You 老友, Re-branded With New Dishes From Various Part Of Malaysia At Bedok Mall - Mixing the Claypot Mee Tai Mak

Next was the KL Mee Tai Mak 砂锅米苔目 ($7.50), similar to the KL Hokkien Mee. Black sauce fried Mee Tai Mak was submerged beneath the layer of fried shallot and chopped spring onions with the yolk exposed. Mixed them well and enjoy. The main flavour was from the black soya sauce comprises savoury taste with a lightly sweet hint.

Lou You 老友, Re-branded With New Dishes From Various Part Of Malaysia At Bedok Mall - Claypot Bak Kut Teh 砂锅肉骨茶 ($8.50)

Our last Main was the Claypot Bak Kut Teh 砂锅肉骨茶 ($8.50). In this bowl of pipping hot soup which has a distinct black sauce flavour that was dominated by the sweet taste, I didn’t favour that. However, it has lots of ingredients such as pork ribs, taupok and pig stomach.

NAHMJ Verdict

The re-branding of Lou You 老友 brought the taste of Malaysia to consumers in Singapore, allowing diners to enjoy their favourite Malaysian cuisine without having to travel.

The Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) has organised the Urban Kampung carnival with The Ultimate Satay Challenge 2016 held on 22 October 2016 at Queen Elizabeth Walk (former location of the old Satay Club). The carnival aimed to foster understanding towards Islam and the Malay-Muslim culture through various activities, as well as unite Singaporeans through our common passion for food.

The Ultimate Satay Challenge 2016

8 famous halal satay stalls were specially invited to participate in The Ultimate Satay Challenge 2016. The 8 halal satay stalls are Haron Satay, Jamil Sate Classic, Salam Satay Inc, Satay Power 6, Kam Satay, Lina Satay, The Hungry Bazterdz and The Ugly Duckling.

The participating stalls are Haron Satay, Jamil Sate Classic, Salam Satay Inc, Satay Power 6, Kam Satay, Lina Satay, The Hungry Bazterdz and The Ugly Duckling.

There are 3 award categories; Ultimate Satay, Best Satay Meat, and Best Satay Sauce. Visitors who purchased the voting tickets were treated to 2 satay sticks from each of the 8 satay masters. They casted their votes for the 3 categories. A special category called Kindest Satay Master was also presented at the Award Ceremony. The judges observed how the various staff of the stall served the visitors. The winners were:

Ultimate Satay Master: Haron Satay

Best Satay Meat: Haron Satay

Best Satay Sauce: Jamil Sate Classic

The Ultimate Satay Challenge 2016 At Urban Kampung - Haron Satay in sauce

Haron Satay is the winner for both the Best Satay Meat and Ultimate Satay award. They were my favourite satay stall among the 8 too. As the satay meat were tender with a little char flavour. Most importantly, the meat was well marinate in a good and balance mixed of spice. The peanut sauce augmented the flavour with the lightly sweet peanut flavour.

The Ultimate Satay Challenge 2016 At Urban Kampung - Jamil Sate Classic Satay in Peanut Sauce

The extremely reddish peanut sauce shocked me as I did not expect it to be so. So much for the look, this sauce won the Best Satay Sauce award. Beside the colour, the sauce was spicy and strong in peanut flavour. Little wonder why they are the best.

The Ultimate Satay Challenge 2016 At Urban Kampung - Salam Satay Inc.

Personally, I find Salim Satay Inc. extremely disappointing. The meat was a tad tough, marinate remained on the surface. Lastly the sauce was a little too diluted in flavour.

The Ultimate Satay Challenge 2016 At Urban Kampung - Satay Power 6

While the Jamil Sate Sauce shocked me, Satay Power 6 shocked me with its red satay. Each satay has a piece of distinct fat meat. Meat on stick though was well marinate but overall was a little too sweet and chewy.

Kam Satay

The meat on the Kam Satay is rough and a tad tough with strong tumeric flavours while sauce was mainly sweet, lightly spicy with weak peanut flavour.

Though the satay has a nice spice and herb marinate but it was too tough. The lightly sweet sauce did not stick to the satay and somehow didn’t complement well. I rather eat the satay alone without the sauce.

Flavour of the tough meat satay from Hungry Bazterdz was with a modern twist. And the marinate for the chicken stick again was only on the surface. Overall, the savoury hint didn’t complement the sauce.

The Ultimate Satay Challenge 2016 At Urban Kampung - The Ugly Duckling

Last but not least, at The Ultimate Satay Challenge 2016 was The Ugly Duckling. Their selling point is the special Duck satay. I thought it was refreshing. The texture is inclined to smoked duck. While Beef satay did get much marinate; I didn’t enjoy. The sweetish peanut sauce has chunky peanut pieces. Overall texture of sauce was rough.

Penang Culture is one of the few restaurants in Singapore offering Penang food. And good news for our Muslim foodie, Penang Culture is a Halal restaurant. We didn’t notice until we saw quite a few groups of Malay gathering for a meal at the restaurant. Currently, there are 3 outlets located at JEMS, Century Square Shopping Mall and Changi Airport Terminal 2. Why aren’t they having an outlet in town?! That’s really a pity.

The kitchen is helmed by Chef Wong Thin Lipp, a Penangite who has 20 years of culinary experience in Penang. So diners of Penang Culture could be pretty assured that the food are authentic.

Penang Culture, Halal Restaurant, Changi Airport Terminal 2, Singapore - Changi Airport T2 Outlet Facade

To mark their 5th year anniversary (Wow! 5 years! They have come a long way!), Penang Culture celebrates by introducing a few delicious twists.

All its outlet has semi-service except at the Changi Airport Terminal 2 that has full service. Nonetheless, it is still a casual dinning environment. Our feasting was at Changi Airport Terminal 2 outlet. We find the staff attentive, friendly and warm.

Penang Culture, Halal Restaurant, Changi Airport Terminal 2, Singapore - Penang Rojak ($5.95)

We started off with Penang Culture signaguture dish, the Penang Rojak ($5.95). The characteristics of this dish is the vegetables and fruits are more chunky, the You Tiao is extra crispy and the sauce is thicker and richer comparing to our local Rojak. I like the sauce but would prefer the vegetables and fruits to be thinner so that I could enjoy more of the sauce. Most diners at the table find the dish mediocre. I suppose preference play a large role here.

Penang Culture, Halal Restaurant, Changi Airport Terminal 2, Singapore - Penang Fire Wings ($6.55)

The first new creation introduced on the menu in celebration of their 5th Anniversary is the Penang Fire Wings ($6.55). This creation is rested on the belachan (prawn paste) coated chicken wings. It is then tossed in a sweet plum and Thai chilli sauce. The result of the wings tasted like Yangnyeom flavoured Korean Fried Chicken Wings. And beware for those who has low spice tolerate; it is quite spicy

Penang Culture, Halal Restaurant, Changi Airport Terminal 2, Singapore - Penang Curry Fish Balls ($4.95)

Penang Curry Fish Balls ($4.95) is one of the must have if you like curry fish balls. Even for people who don’t fancy the dish, like myself, enjoyed this dish tremendously. The deep fried fishball that has a slight chewy and yet soft fish balls were immersed in the rich fragrance curry sauce to soaked up the essence of the gravy.

Penang Culture, Halal Restaurant, Changi Airport Terminal 2, Singapore - BBQ Salmon ($11.95)

Coming up is another dish which I will avoid as I am not a fan of cooked salmon and I did enjoy the BBQ Salmon ($11.95). First, the salmon doesn’t have a strong pungent fishy flavour as the restaurant uses high grade Norwegian salmon. Secondly, with the Chef’s sweet spicy paste make a huge different. The chilli paste which consist of an array of spice and herb does elevate the dinning pleasure.

Penang Culture, Halal Restaurant, Changi Airport Terminal 2, Singapore - Salmon Assam Laksa ($11.95)

One of the classic Penang food is the Assam Laksa which diners will never want to miss. Base on this classic dish, Penang Culture has added luxurious factor with addition of Norwegian Salmon pieces to the bowl of delight and this creation is known as Salmon Assam Laksa ($11.95). The Assam Laksa at Penang Culture is more rounded and balance as such expect a less sour but yet rich and flavourful soup. The soup is boiled using Sardine, Kembong (mackerel), lots of spice and herbs, hae kor (fermented shrimp paste) and with the key ingredients, the assam (tamarind). Since it is less sour, diners who have low sour tolerance will rejoice while diners who enjoyed the typical Assam Laksa would frown upon. Maybe Penang Culture could come up with 2 version for diners to choose.

Penang Culture, Halal Restaurant, Changi Airport Terminal 2, Singapore - Premium Lobster & Scallop Noodles ($16.95)

Most who visited Penang would be familiar with Penang Hokkien Mee (a soup based prawn mee similar to Singapore version). Penang Culture has added Lobster and Scallops in this dish to provide the Premium Lobster & Scallop Noodles ($16.95).

Penang Culture, Halal Restaurant, Changi Airport Terminal 2, Singapore - Premium Crab Meat & Salted Egg Fried Kway Teow ($15.95)

Premium Crab Meat & Salted Egg Fried Kway Teow ($15.95) is adapted from the Penang Fried Kway Teow. With Salted Egg added into the it hence it result in a more salty taste profile. So for those who prefer less salty could opt for the original Penang Fried Kway Teow ($8.95) instead.

Penang Culture, Halal Restaurant, Changi Airport Terminal 2, Singapore - Penang Chenol ($4.55), King of Cendol ($6.95)

To round up the meal with a sweet note, dessert is never to be missed. We have 2 desserts; Cendol and Bubur Hitam.

For Cendol, diners could opt for the original or with durian, Penang Chenol ($4.55), King of Cendol ($6.95) respectively.

Penang Culture, Halal Restaurant, Changi Airport Terminal 2, Singapore - King of Bubur Hitam ($6.95)

The restaurant has provided 3 version of Bubur Hitam. First is the original version, with coconut cream, named simply as Bubur Hitam ($3.95). Next is the Bubur Hitam with Vanilla Ice Cream ($4.95) and lastly is with durian pulp for the durian lovers, the King of Bubur Hitam ($6.95).

Penang Culture, Halal Restaurant, Changi Airport Terminal 2, Singapore - Ampla Juice ($4.95)

One of the highly recommended drink is the Ampla Juice ($4.95). There is also an ice blended version, Ampla Ice Blended ($8.95). It has a complex flavour. I could savour green apple, guava and starfruits. I would encourage all to give it a try if you aren’t familar with this tropical fruit.

Other recommendation include the Cempedek Milkshakes ($6.95), Coconut Milkshakes ($6.95) and Durian Milkshakes ($6.95).

NAHMJ Verdict

We thought well of the food served at Penang Culture. I am glad that they are at the airport as I have one more option to dine at when I am travelling since I have a habit of dinning a the airport prior departure or upon arrival.

Face To Face Noodle House Singapore 面对面 is the first outside of Malaysia outlet. It is located at City Square with the Farrer Park Station connected. It is easy access for patrons to get to the Noodle House.

The story of Face To Face began over 100 years ago, with the founder’s great-grandfather left China for Hong Kong in 1903 to seek his fortune. After finding a job as a chef’s assistant in a local restaurant and winning the Chef’s trust through his diligence, he was allowed the opportunity to learn the art of making Jook Sing noodles, considered one of the rarest forms of noodle-making in existence. It’s success story did not come easy. According to the noodle house, it went bankrupt twice before gaining fame for its brand in Malaysia.

Once might have notice that that the setup seems like a fast food restaurant. Indeed that was the original concept. The Face To Face Noodle spokeman revealed that it has spent an hefty amount in the renovation of the shop. It has selected the straw hat with each represent a tribes in Sarawak. We thought it was very meaningful since the noodle originated from there.

It has since changed from a fast food restaurant concept to a cafe with service after they have understand from their customers preference. Now, order is made by self at the counter and food will be served.

Menu

At the Singapore outlet, currently, Face To Face has carefully selected 8 of its best noodles among the list that was available in the Malaysia outlet to showcase in Singapore.

Face To Face Noodle House Singapore At City Square - Creation Pork Pan Mee ($8.90)

First on the list is the Creation Pork Pan Mee ($8.90). It uses the pork belly for the braised meat and sauce. With the good ratio of fats, it added fragrance to the noodle. This is love almost the diners at our table.

Face To Face Noodle House Singapore At City Square - Black Pepper Pork Chop Pan Mee ($12.90)

The second to be introduced is the Black Pepper Pork Chop Pan Mee ($12.90) for the black pepper fan. Personally, I didn’t find any special to this bowl of noodle.

Face To Face Noodle House Singapore At City Square - Sichuan Piquant Pan Mee ($10.90)

For the Szechuan Mala fan, you might want to turn to Sichuan Piquant Pan Mee ($10.90). The soup is fiery. Most were shocked at the spice level. So beware when you are about to sip the soup.

Face To Face Noodle House At City Square - Traditional Sarawak Noodles ($8.90)

There are a total 5 signature noodles on the menu of Face To Face Noodle House Singapore. First, is the Traditional Sarawak Noodles ($8.90). This version is adapted to Singaporean palatte. Next is the Hot And Spicy Pan Mee ($8.90) is also another hot favourite at Face To Face Noodle House Singapore. I enjoyed especially the ikan bilis. This is the dry version. The soup version is the House Specialty Pan Mee ($8.90) which we didn’t order.

At Face To Face Noodle House Singapore, it offers a good range of Hot and Cold Drink. The signature drinks are the Iced Signature Organic Coffee ($5), Caramel 3 Layer Tea ($4.50) and Multigrain Soymilk ($3.50). I went for none but the refreshing Longan Ribena ($4).

NAHMJ Verdict

Though food may not be come cheap, Face To Face Noodle House Singapore may be a good alternative to the only other famous Ji Xiang Sawarak Kuching Kolo Mee in Singapore.

Agrobazaar Malaysia is here in Singapore due to a Malaysian government funded initiatives. As a result Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore is born at Sultan Gate, Kampong Glam, occupying a few shophouses. It has a very interesting concept; consisting of a supermarket, cafe and a restaurant. The supermarket are stocked with Malaysian produces and products, while the cafe and restaurant serve authentic Malaysian cuisine.

Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore - Supermarket

Supermarket

On the ground floor is the Supermarket. The Supermarket section is the original business of Agrobazaar Malaysia.

Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore - More Supermarket Products

There are so many Malaysia producce and products with brands that are never seen in any other supermarket in Singapore. It is also shelves with lots of Malaysia grown fruits.

Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore - Durians

My favourite part of the supermarket is the special Durian room filled with Durian. I was eyeing for these king of fruits from the moment I see them.

KopieSatu Cafe

Also located at the ground floor is KopieSatu. This is one of the addition to the Singapore outlet. It is not found back in the Agrobazaar Malaysia. KopieSatu Cafe serves specialty coffee and cakes.

The good news at KopieSatu is that complimentary Wifi is offered to patrons.

Verandah Restaurant

On the second floor found the Verandah Restaurant also only available at Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore. It has both the indoor and al fresco seating area.

Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore - Restaurant, Verandah

At the Verandah, lots of mouth-watering authentic Malaysian food is served.

On The Table

We tried a pretty good number of dishes ranging from Mains, Sides and Desserts.

Mee Bandung ‘Muo’

The Mee Bandung ‘Muo’ reminded me of Mee Rebus.

Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore - Mee Bandung 'Muo'

It is richer in meat and seafood taste than the Mee Rebus.

Penang Laksa

Strong in flavour as it is packed with sour and chilli scent.

Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore - Penang Laksa

Typical Penang Laksa characteristics is found in this lovely bowl of delicacy.

Tauhu Bakar

A dish similar to Tahu Goreng.

Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore - Tauhu Bakar

Chicken Satay

Tender chicken meat with rich peanut sauce to compliment the flavour.

Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore - Chicken Satay

Goreng Pisang and Sweet Potato

Batter was thinly coated and crispy. And importantly, it didn’t soak much oil.

Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore - Goreng Pisang

My favourite part of the dinner has always been the desserts. No exception this round.

Cendol

Rich in coconut, mild Gula Melaka.

Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore - Cendol

I wouldn’t mind if the Gula Melaka is more concentrated.

Kueh Lapis

Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore - Kueh Lapis

Agro Durian Rainbow cake

Among the 3, the Agro Durian Rainbow Cake is my top choice. Interestingly, it is a little briny like the salted caramel.

Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore - Agro Durian Rainbow cake

If I can only choose one desserts at the Verandah Restaurant, I won’t trade this piece of cake for anything else.

Dragonfruit and Pineapple Fruit Juice

A citrus fruit juice

Ice Caramel Latte

Lightly sweet and lightly coffee flavoured. Perfect for the light palate.

Another drink we tried was the Teh Terik, which I forgot to take a photo. The scent was pretty light too.

Verdict and NAHMJ Pick

Agrobazaar Malayia @ Singapore is certainly a great place for anyone who relishes the authentic Malaysian food to turn to when in need to satisfy their craving.

Agrobazaar Malaysia @ Singapore - Some Agrobazaar products

And if you need to find any Malaysian products, this is the place. We even spotted Bird’s Nest Chocolate.

The food we love are the Penang Laksa, Mee Bandung ‘Muo’ and the Agro Durian Rainbow cake.

Traditional Haig Road Puti Piring has the best Putu Piring in Singapore. My family and I love their Putu Piring. There are two outlets in Geylang. Whenever I am in the area, I will drop by the stall to buy a few packets home without fail. It has been quite some time since I last have these Putu Piring, I missed them.

Traditional Haig Road Putu Piring - Tristar Complex Outlet

They have 2 outlets, both are at Gelyang. One of the outlet that was in a coffeeshop has moved to the Haig Road Food Centre.

At both stall, there is always a queue at the stall but it is definitely worth waiting.

Traditional Haig Road Putu Piring - Putu Piring

The Putu Piring is a traditional Malay cake. It is made of rice flour with coconut sugar as the filling. The outer side is fluffy, soft and thin. They added generous amount of coconut sugar in the filling. It is very delicious. Highly recommended to all.

I have not visited Madam Kwan since it opened its door in VivoCity Singapore early last year. I do enjoy the food served in Madam Kwan, just that I feel it is very overpriced Hawker Food, Nasi Lemak priced at $13.90. I could have cheaper option with just as good as what Madam Kwan is serving. I will have it only when I am at Malaysia, that was my thought.

But today, my colleagues suggested that we have lunch at Madam Kwan as we are meeting a ex-colleague. So I followed along.

Madam Kwan
The iconic Madam Kwan

There are dishes that I usually order in Madam Kwan; the Curry Fish Head (of course, it will be for sharing), Nasi Lemak, Nasi Bojari, Cendol. For today, I ordered the Nasi Bojari, a three-coloured rice with fried chicken thigh, rendang and prawn sambal. The food is as good as what was served in Malaysia. Both the beef rendang and prawn sambal were yummy, yummy and not too spicy, just that it is a little too oily.

Nasi Boroja
Nasi Boroja

The food is delicious but far too expensive. If you don’t mind paying for it and want to enjoy Hawker Food at a great ambience with air-conditioned environment, it would be a good option. It is definitely a good option to entertain guests, and to introduce them to Asian Food at a relaxing, comfortable place.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed the lunch.

Below are more photos of Madam Kwan’s dishes I took from another occasion with colleagues
