Crowne Plaza Shanghai Noah Square is located in the Putuo district of Shanghai, on west of the river. A 4-star hotel with Hongqiao Airport 8km away.

Surrounding

It is pretty far from the city centre, about an hour drive away. It is a 20-minute drive from Hongqiao Airport. Other destination nearby the hotel are Linkong Economic Zone, Caohejing Hi-Tech Park and Shanghai International Procurement Exhibition Center.

Close by is a subway station, Zhenbei station (line 13), surrounded by several malls with the nearest being 118 Mall. The hotel has an elevator that lead to the basement of this shopping centre.

Lobby

High ceiling lobby with marble-finishes. Even though it may not be as impressive as some other hotel, certainly a sense of luxurious ambience is present.

Check-in And Check-Out

2 island of counter sporadically at the side with maximum number of front desk staff stationed. Even though it is an international brand, staff spoke minimal English. Both checking in and out were swift and no process deviated from other international chain.

Check-in time is 2pm while check-out time is 12pm. This is yet another hotel that didn’t allow me to check in as early as 9am. I was only allowed to check-in at 12pm.

Room

Allocated a 38m² room on the fifth floor. Though not as huge as The Westin Mumbai Garden City, there was sufficient space for comfortable and ease of maneuvering of luggage and movement.

Modern design with cosy vibes was the sense.

Besides the King size bed, an arm chair and a working desk were in the room. In addition, a flat screen TV was facing the bed, configuration was similar to all hotel’s room. The bed was firm though pillow was too soft for me.

Housekeeping

Housekeeping at Crowne Plaza Shanghai Noah Square did a very good job for my room. Even my colleague reflected the same. All complimentary items (except soap) were replenished. Each inch of the room was tidied, including the bed and bathroom. I was glad that I noticed no leftover hair anywhere in the room.

Facilities

Gym, indoor swimming pool, parking are all available at the hotel.

Restaurants

Crowne Plaza Shanghai Noah Square offers 2 dinning option; Noah Cook for international cuisines and Lobby Lounge for a drink. The former was where breakfast is served. At the breakfast, a wide range of selection was available.

Price

I booked using corporate rate at 800 CNY per night for the 3 nights, checked in on 10 September 2018 and checked out on 13 September 2018.

NAHMJ Verdict

I would recommend Crowne Plaza Shanghai Noah Square anytime, if you are in Pudong.

There is no lack of Shanghainese Restaurant in Shanghai. At every corner, at time, there will be more than one. Around Howard Johnson Huaihai Hotel, where I stayed in both my 2018 trips, numerous well-known brands are in the area. I tried Grape Restaurant and Home’s Private Restaurant in my earlier trip and the last, I was introduced to Polo Restaurant 保罗酒楼 by a Shanghainese friend.

Polo Restaurant 保罗酒楼 is a time-honoured brand located along Fumin Road has been around for about 20 years. Span across 3-level with both dinning hall and private dinning rooms.

Polo Restaurant 保罗酒楼 Shanghainese Restaurant At Xuhui - Second level dinning area

Jelly Fish 酱麻油海蜇 (CNY 39), a classic Shanghainese appetiser. Blanched chewy and crunchy jelly fish with almost no seasoning was served with a bowl of sesame oil cum soy sauce as dip. I didn’t enjoy this dish. Not much different from gnawing rubber.

Polo Restaurant 保罗酒楼 Shanghainese Restaurant At Xuhui - Jelly Fish 酱麻油海蜇 (CNY 39)

Polo Restaurant 保罗酒楼 Shanghainese Restaurant At Xuhui - Bulk Wheat 四喜烤麸 (CNY 30)

Another typical Shanghainese dish, Bulk Wheat 四喜烤麸 (CNY 30). The texture and taste is similar to a Mock Abalone canned food we have in Singapore. The Shanghai rendition is sweeter.

Polo Restaurant 保罗酒楼 Shanghainese Restaurant At Xuhui - Coconut Pea Soup 椰香青豆泥 (CNY 36)

Coconut Pea Soup 椰香青豆泥 (CNY 36) is a highly recommended dish. Both my friends love it. Not for me though. I find the soup too rich and sweet. Furthermore, having coconut cream on savoury food tasted weird to me. In summary, I suppose it is an acquired taste.

To begin with, I am not a big fan of Eel. The Signature Grilled Eel 保罗特色烤鳗 (CNY 158) has a thick rubbery skin which I didn’t enjoyed. Furthermore, the dominating flavour was saccharine and nothing else. The consolation was that the eel was well char-grilled.

Polo Restaurant 保罗酒楼 Shanghainese Restaurant At Xuhui - Signature Grilled Eel 保罗特色烤鳗 (CNY 158)

Polo Restaurant 保罗酒楼 Shanghainese Restaurant At Xuhui - Seasonal Vegetable 石锅米茜 (CNY 42)

Seasonal Vegetable 石锅米茜 (CNY 42) was light in flavour. Therefore, I find it bland.

Polo Restaurant 保罗酒楼 Shanghainese Restaurant At Xuhui - Crispy Noodle with Seafood 海鲜两面黄 (CNY 42)

Lastly was the Crispy Noodle with Seafood 海鲜两面黄 (CNY 42). Reminded me of the Shan mian at our local Cze Char store. Slight distinct difference was noted in the noodle. The Shanghainese version has thicker noodle hence the texture was harder.

NAHMJ Verdict

After trying quite some Shanghainese food, I certainly think there are much better restaurant than Polo Restaurant 保罗酒楼 in Shanghai. Skip them if you can.

Around Putuo, there aren’t as much fabulous option when compared to the Xuhui and Jingan and the many other area in the Central of Shanghai. One of the more befitting option is See The Sea 78 看海78 located on the second floor of Caoyang Business Building.

The name though rhyme, sounds strange and interesting at the same time. I didn’t understand why they have the number 78 in the name. Anyhow, more importantly is the taste of the food served and the ambience.

See The Sea 78 看海78 At Putuo Fresh Seafood And Many Delish Items - Interior

Heard that numerous China colleagues tried and they find that See The Sea 78 was considerably delicious. The main feature of the restaurant was their Live Seafood. On the contrary, the popular dish isn’t seafood though.

The Food

We started with an appetiser, Cold Dish, Marinated Cucumber. Usually it is seasoned with sesame oil, vinegar and soy sauce. Nothing special but refreshing.

See The Sea 78 看海78 At Putuo Fresh Seafood And Many Delish Items - Appetiser, Marinated Cucumber

See The Sea 78 看海78 At Putuo Fresh Seafood And Many Delish Items - Sashimi

Next was the Salmon Sashimi which wow us. The texture, flavour indicating that it is a pretty high Sashimi grade Salmon.

See The Sea 78 看海78 At Putuo Fresh Seafood And Many Delish Items - Corn and Carrot Pork Rib Soup

Corn and Carrot Pork Rib Soup was a crowd-pleaser. Well-balance flavour between the meat and the vegetable. For me, it was a familiar taste as my family does cook this dish at times.

Next were the Steamed Yellow Croackers. Simple ingredients of Preserved Vegetables and Soy Sauce used for steaming with the fish. As such, it allows diners to savour the natural flavour of the fish. As long as the fish is fresh, it can’t go wrong.

See The Sea 78 看海78 At Putuo Fresh Seafood And Many Delish Items - Salt and Pepper Prawn

Salt and Pepper Prawn, a common dish in China. I am not a fan of this dish as I find it a hassle to get the tiny meat out of the shell. In addition, most meat stick to the shell.

See The Sea 78 看海78 At Putuo Fresh Seafood And Many Delish Items - Hot Plate Beef

Hot Plate Beef was too oily though flavoursome. Silky Steamed Egg with Clams was on the healthier-tasting dish.

See The Sea 78 看海78 At Putuo Fresh Seafood And Many Delish Items - Steamed Egg with Clams

See The Sea 78 看海78 At Putuo Fresh Seafood And Many Delish Items - Julienne Beancurd

Personally, I don’t fancy Julienne Beancurd. This dish consist solely of soy sauce flavour.

Best of The Best

The best of the best was the Roast Duck. I saw that almost every table has a plate of this item. Crispy skin with aromatic duck meat. Most importantly, it has enough amount of salt.

See The Sea 78 看海78 At Putuo Fresh Seafood And Many Delish Items - Roast Duck

There was yet another dish we ordered and we loved it was the Seafood Porridge. A pity I lost the photo. The key was in the toothsome soup used to cook the rice.

Dim Sum

Though we ordered a few savoury Dim Sum, I would advise all to skip unless you are carving for them. The Prawn Dumpling wasn’t anywhere near my expectation.

See The Sea 78 看海78 At Putuo Fresh Seafood And Many Delish Items - Prawn Dumpling

If you are looking for their sweet Dim Sum, they were pretty decent. The Steamed Sponge Cake and the Portuguese Egg Tart were what we tried.

NAHMJ Verdict

If you were in Putuo and are looking for a Chinese Restaurant, See The Sea 78 看海78 is what we will highly recommend. And don’t forget to order the Roast Duck.

I would consider Shanghai as a metropolitan; attracting international expats to the city so is the culinary scene. One could expect all sorts of cuisines. In my last trip, I experience an authentic New York style Bagel, Spread The Bagel. And the Montreal-style experience is not spare, with Tock’s Shanghai offering Smoked Meat, Reuben Sandwiches, Pickles and Poutine.

Located near The Bund area and is accessible by the subway, we could expect lots of both local and tourist patronising the restaurant. And by the way, mainly are foreigners.

I visited Tock’s Shanghai with a friend who works in Shanghai, who visited a few times and find it a worthy to recommend to me. On a Saturday, around 12pm, it was relatively empty. But according to my friend, the restaurant is packed especially during dinner time.

Even the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dined at Tock’s Shanghai during his visit in 2016 (if I am correct about the date).

Tock's Shanghai, An Authentic Montreal Deli Experience Even Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Dine There - Tock's Signature Smoked Beef Sandwich (CNY 100)

Since they are well-known for the Smoked Beef with prickle, we ordered the Tock’s Signature Smoked Beef Sandwich (CNY 100) for sharing. Each serving comes with either a salad (with choice of garden salad which we opted or caesar salad) or Fries.

Tock's Shanghai, An Authentic Montreal Deli Experience Even Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Dine There - Tock's Signature Smoked Beef Sandwich closed-up

Jaw-dropped when I saw the size. It was humongous. Fortunately, we decided to share. I couldn’t have finished the entire serving. I love the bread, the smoked beef and the prickle though I find it too cloying due to the large amount of meat. But for the carnivore, I am sure they will disagree with my opinion.

Tock's Shanghai, An Authentic Montreal Deli Experience Even Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Dine There - Poutine with Meat Sauce

The Poutine with Meat Sauce was colossal. It could easily feed 10 person and I am not joking. At least, 10 of me. Tasty though most of the fries turned soggy due to the meat sauce.

NAHMJ Verdict

For an authentic Montreal experience, Tock’s Shanghai is the place. Order the Tock’s Signature Smoked Beef Sandwich and the poutine.

The name Beef And Liberty came from the motto of Sublime Society of Beefsteaks, a leading restaurant in London of the 18th century. They have 3 restaurants in Shanghai, 2 in Pudong (Shanghai Centre and Kerry Centre) and 1 in Puxi (Kawah Centre). Strangely, previously, when I asked my friends in Shanghai for Burgers restaurant recommendation, none mentioned this to me. However, they suggested Blue Frog 蓝蛙 which I tried and I love it.

I wrote this blog post about Beef And Liberty after my second visit. For both time, I walked away feeling satisfied with the meal.

Beef And Liberty At Kawah Centre In Shanghai - Dinning Area View

Beef And Liberty At Kawah Centre In Shanghai - View of Bar Counter

The restaurant specialised in Hamburgers, offering a total of 8 selection of burgers. Mainly beef. There are only 3 non-beef burgers; chicken, vegetarian and pork. Though from the name, I was expecting to spot beef steak on the menu.

Beef And Liberty At Kawah Centre In Shanghai - Chicken Strips (CNY 49)

Beef And Liberty At Kawah Centre In Shanghai - Broccolini & Feat (CNY59)

Among the 5 sides, I tried 2 of them. First was the crowd-pleaser, Chicken Strips (CNY 49). Tasty fried boneless chicken. Second item was the healthy Broccolini & Feta (CNY59) for some green. Even though it was a simple dish, it was flavourful due to the feta and lemon zest.

Beef And Liberty At Kawah Centre In Shanghai - Cheese Hamburger (CNY99)

Since it is a beef restaurant, having a Beef Burger is the way to go. Five dishes offered, with option of firstly the good plain Hamburger (CNY89), Cheese Hamburger (CNY99), Bacon Cheese Hamburger (CNY102), Black Pepper Hamburger and lastly the fiery spicy El Cabron Hamburger (CNY109).

Little Pecker (CNY 79) was pale in comparison with the rest of the burger I tried. Though the chicken was flavoured with piri piri marinade, celeriac slaw, mustard and lemon aioli, it was relatively bland for my preference.

Beef And Liberty At Kawah Centre In Shanghai - Little Pecker (CNY 79)

The Notorious P.I.G (CNY 89) consisted of braised BBQ pulled pork instead of a patty packed of grind meat. Compliment the sweet meat with green apple slaw was brillant as it reduces the cloying feel of the BBQ sauce and meatiness feel.

Beef And Liberty At Kawah Centre In Shanghai - The Notorious P.I.G (CNY 89)

In addition, I love the Sweet Potato Fries over the French Fries, though they were equally good too.

NAHMJ Verdict

Looking for awesome burger, Beef And Liberty will be the it place. Guarantee for a satisfaction meal.

This is my first time taking the Singapore Airlines Business Class On SQ826 from Singapore to Shanghai. As it is a short haul flight, even though a red-eye flight, I have always been flying Economy class. A pity on this flight, there isn’t Premium Economy, as it is my preferred choice.

Actual Arrival: 13 January 2018, Saturday, 06:27H
Estimated Duration: 5h 40mins
Actual Duration: 5h 20mins
Mileage: 2364
Aircraft: Boeing 777-300
Seat: 22K (Business Class)

Business Class On SQ826, Flying Singapore Airlines To Shanghai - Business Class

My Business Class On SQ826 to Shanghai is also on Boeing 777-300, similar to my January trip to Paris via Singapore Airlines Business Class SQ336. I took the seat 22K, there is view of the wing and engine. To have an unblock view, take seats before 19. Avoid 21A/K as these are windowless.

I

The seat configuration is similar to all other Singapore Airlines Business Class product with 1-2-1.

Business Class On SQ826, Flying Singapore Airlines To Shanghai - Compartment

Business Class On SQ826, Flying Singapore Airlines To Shanghai - Various plugs

Boeing 777-300 offers only 1 electric plug. Fortunately, there is an USB for charging. On both side of the seat, there is the plug for the headphone. A compartment for the storage.

Numerous buttons for the seats inclination, lights and calling the service crew. I like the “Do Not Disturb” button which is available on Business Class seats.

Once Settled down, a welcome drink was served, choices of Champagne, Water and Orange Juice. For other choices, passengers would have to make the request.

Business Class On SQ826, Flying Singapore Airlines To Shanghai - Drink

Before taking off, the crew will take your before meal drink and your Main for Supper.

Business Class On SQ826, Flying Singapore Airlines To Shanghai - Warm Nuts And Drink

I requested for Ethiopia to go along with the warm Almond and Cashew Nuts. While I was enjoying the drink and snack, the crews were busy preparing our Supper.

Beginning with a bread. Assorted Bread Rolls and Gourmet Bread was served. This round I chose the soft herby Foccacia

Business Class On SQ826, Flying Singapore Airlines To Shanghai - Foccacia

Appetiser for the Supper was the Salad of Colossal Crab with refreshing Mango and Citrus dressing.

Business Class On SQ826, Flying Singapore Airlines To Shanghai - Salad of Colossal Crab

Business Class On SQ826, Flying Singapore Airlines To Shanghai - Angus Beef Burger

Before the flight, I ordered the Angus Beef Burger from the Book A Cook. The beef patty was medium rare, though I think it is the perfect way for a beef burger, however, since it was warm-up in the flight, hence, it must have been cold since preparation. Hence, it made a good bed for micro-organisim. As a result, I only have a bite to taste it.

Business Class On SQ826, Flying Singapore Airlines To Shanghai - Fruits

Lastly, fresh fruits from the basket with choices of Rambutan, Plum, Banana, Grapes, Clementine and Apple were offered.

After Supper, it is time to sleep. I visited the lavatory to brush my teeth.

Business Class On SQ826, Flying Singapore Airlines To Shanghai - Side of lavatory

Standard offering of Saver, Comb, Brush, Sanitary Pad and some bags.

Mouthwash, Moisturiser, Cologne were by the side too.

Before landing, once again, drink was served. At 6.15am, SQ826 landed at Pudong Airport and it taxi for quite a while and arrived at the gate at 6.27am.

NAHMJ Verdict

Business Class On SQ826 was enjoyable. For a short haul flight, having a flat bed didn’t allow me to make full use of this feature. To pay for a premium and yet I don’t get to utilise fully, I would consider twice. Perhaps, when I feel like splurging or it is paid by someone, I would not waver.

As Shanghai gets more cosmopolitan, we observed an influx of Western culture and expat, hence the sprouting of cafes in Shanghai with specialised food such as Cinq Heure Du Matin are inevitable. As a result, Spread The Bagel is created by Christine Asuncion, an American who studied Mandarin and Economics, worked as a teacher simply to resolve her craving and yearning for home-grown food, the Bagel.

The only outlet I know is located behind iAPM mall with South Shaanxi Road subway station close by making it extremely accessible. Since we are putting up at Howard Johnson Huaihai Hotel, a stone throw away and they opened as early as 7am, it provided us the best opportunity for breakfast.

As for the types of bagels, there are as much as 8 option with choices of Plain, Everything, Parmesan, Onion, Cinnamon Raisin, Sesame, Whole Wheat and Whole Wheat Everything.

Spread The Bagel At Nanchang Road For A Bagelicious Experience - Fatty Salmon Patty (68 RMB)
Fatty Salmon Patty (68 RMB)

We opted for a hot and a cold with both salmon as the Main filling. First is the Fatty Salmon Patty (68 RMB), a hot bagel sandwich. As it has lots of ingredients such as egg, onions and sauces, resulting in a highly tasty sandwich.

Spread The Bagel At Nanchang Road For A Bagelicious Experience - Foxy 'Salmon' Lox (RMB 58)
Foxy ‘Salmon’ Lox (RMB 58)

While the Foxy ‘Salmon’ Lox (RMB 58), a cold bagel sandwich, is pale to comparison. Since it was with only cream cheese and smoked salmon.

Lastly, on the tables are various sauces for diners to spice up their bagel sandwiches.

NAHMJ Verdict

For authentic New York experience of Bagel in Shanghai, Spread The Bagel is certainly the place to visit.

Jumbo Seafood Restaurant in Singapore is a big brand name. No doubt, I have visited numerous time. Strangely, every time was there to entertain visitors from overseas. In particular to introduce them to the famous Chilli Crab in Singapore. It is interesting that I never bring overseas visitors to Mellben or Paradise. They have expanded to China with quite some outlet there and again, I visited the Jumbo Seafood Restaurant Shanghai at iAPM mall with non-Singaporeans too. In this same mall, the other restaurant I tried was Bellagio Cafe.

I never wrote any post about them, till .. this round, when I visited the Shanghai outlet.

Interior design is different from the Singapore outlet. At Shanghai, it looks classy with an Atas (high class in Malay) vibes, unlike the outlets in Singapore that feel more casual.

Over to the menu, whether is there a major difference between Singapore and China items, I am clueless about it. At the very least, the famous Chilli Crab and other flavours are available.

Jumbo Seafood Restaurant Shanghai At iAPM Mall, Taste Similar To Singapore - Appetitiser
Prawn

Begin with an appetiser, a prawn dish. I don’t remember the name. Various layers of dice ingredients such as tomato, cucumber and mango, finally, crowned with diced prawn on a bed of sauce. It was an item that whet the appetite.

Jumbo Seafood Restaurant Shanghai At iAPM Mall, Taste Similar To Singapore - Hot plate Beancurd

Next is the Hot plate Beancurd. Deep-fried homemade beancurd with generous amount of oyster sauce on a thin layer of omelette. This dish is best with jasmine rice.

Cod Fish

Next up was the Steamed Cod Fish. An oily fish with a tasty savoury sauce.

Jumbo Seafood Restaurant Shanghai At iAPM Mall, Taste Similar To Singapore - Sambal Fried Rice
Sambal Fried Rice

We tried the Sambal Fried Rice for the first time. Lightly spicy with quite some egg, a pity not much of wok hei.

Time for crab! We ordered 2 crabs in 2 flavours. First is the Creamy Butter Crab. It was a shame that the sauce was too diluted. Glad that the crab was fresh and meaty.

Salted Egg Crab

Salted Egg Crab was my prefered choice. The salted egg sauce coated tightly on the crab surface. I like it since it was savoury and not sweet.

Rounding up with the sweetish fruity Mango Sago.

NAHMJ Verdict

Though I have never order most of the dishes we had at Jumbo Seafood Restaurant Shanghai in Singapore, except the crab. I thought it tasted pretty authentic. I didn’t notice much adaptation for Shanghainese preference.

The story of this restaurant was set up through the eyes of a fictional lady who is a spy, named Cobra Lily. Her traces could be discovered at every corner of the restaurant. Located in Xintiandi, occupied a warehouse decked with Brooklyn-meets-Hanoi theme. Within the same area lies one of my favourite dessert cafe in Shanghai, Chikalicious.

A restaurant and a bar that span across 2 levels, with Al Fresco dinning

At Cobra Lily, lunch set menu was available by ordering a Main, add 20 RMB for a drink (Coffee, Tea or Soft Drink) and Soup (of the day). A different dinner menu is available.

Cobra Lily, Based On The Eyes Of A Fictional Lady, At Xintiandi - Ginger Grilled Salmon Bento Lunch (88 RMB)

Cobra Lily, Based On The Eyes Of A Fictional Lady, At Xintiandi - Korean Style Stir Fried Beef Bulgogi Bento Lunch (78 RMB)

Numerous category was available on the lunch menu. Such as Bento Lunch, Noodle, Rice, Sandwiches and Salad.

I opted for bento, Ginger Grilled Salmon Bento Lunch (88 RMB). Besides the steak of salmon, there were Pork Gyoza, Chicken Chopped Salad and Vietnamese Shrimp Roll. I thought well of the all except the Gyoza. The minced meat in the dumpling was strangely powdery. Another good choice under the Bento Lunch is the Korean Style Stir Fried Beef Bulgogi (78 RMB).

Phuket, I’m Out (78 RMB) is a dish of Pad Thai. Flavourful rice noodles though it wasn’t authentic at all. Alternatively, choose the Straight Outta Shanghai Scallion Noodle (68 RMB).

Cobra Lily, Based On The Eyes Of A Fictional Lady, At Xintiandi - Oxtail Soup
Oxtail Soup

The Soup of The Day was Chinese Style Oxtail Soup that impressed even for me who doesn’t like soup. A highly aromatic tasty soup.

NAHMJ Verdict

Cobra Lily isn’t a bad choice. The dishes were of Shanghainese interpretation nothing authentic, it was tasty though. Located in Xintiandi which was once the French Concession area, vibrated the European air.

I love dinning around The Bund, especially, taking the seats next to a window with such magnificent view of Lujiajui Skyline. Some of the restaurants around The Bund that offers this sight are Hakkasan, Whampoa Club, Wei Jing Ge Restaurant and Shook! Shanghai Restaurant. This round I visited Mr & Mrs Bund, Modern Eatery by Paul Pairet for Sunday Brunch.

Mr & Mrs Bund in Shanghai, China is by Paul Pairet who’s Ultraviolet Restaurant in Shanghai was ranked number 41 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurant 2017. It is Shanghai’s first restaurant offering late night dining.

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Interior

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Amuse Bouche

Interior was with Modern European theme. The space is divided into 3 section, a section near the window with good view of The Bund and the second section with comfy sofa while the third is the private dinning area. We got a table next to a window with view of the financial institution building making up of the majestic skyline of Lujiazui.

Both Set Menu and Ala Carte were offered at Mr & Mrs Bund. For ease of mind, we opted from the Set Menu. A total of 7 Set Menu ranging from CNY 250 to CNY 580 per guest. I was tempted to selected the Splurgy CNY 580 meal, however, I think it is too expensive for my China ex-colleague hence, at the end, I chose the Mr & Mrs Bund Set which set us back at CNY 380.

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Complimentary Bread

We asked for 2 glasses of warm water before we placed our order, however, after the order, complimentary bread was served and not the initial request. 2 types of bread, the baguette and sourdough were in the bread basket. I prefer the former since I am not a sourdough fan.

Subsequently, the Amuse Bouche came. Amazed by this simple dish of beetroot with pepper and a fantastic sauce. A good start to the meal.

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Tomato Mozza Salad

First course was the Tomato Mozza Salad consisting of 3-types of heirloom tomato and vinaigrette-like dressing.

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Picnic Chicken

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Cutting the Chicken

Followed up closed was the Picnic Chicken Ailloli, Char-grilled sous vide Chicken Breast with ailloli sauce sandwiched between the meat was tasty. I am not a fan of sous vide meat, and yet I find this acceptable. The sauce elevated the taste profile of the white meat.

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Picnic Chicken Ailloli

Accompanied the chicken was a bowl of Rocket Salad.

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Black Cod "In The Bag" PP

Next was the Black Cod “In The Bag” PP. The Black Cod Fillet was simmered in heat proof bag with a Cantonese Sauce, per the description.

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Cutting the Bag

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Pouring the Sauce

To serve, the service crew, cut a corner of the bag and pour the sauce into a bowl with sparing Jasmine Rice. Next, she unwrapped the bag and dished out fish into the shallow-bowl.

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Cod on Plate

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Spinach Garlic Asiate

The Cod Fish was served with Spinach Garlic Asiate which we find the vegetable a little over-cooked.

By the side was a thicken sauce for guest who find the fish bland. Ironically, we found the sauce too rich for the fish.

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - "Orange & Orange Tart" PP

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Inside of "Orange & Orange Tart" PP

Lastly was dessert. 2 desserts were in the set. First was the “Orange & Orange Tart” PP. A whole orange skin was stewed and filled with Orange Sorbet & Curd cum Vanilla Chantilly. Added Crumbs into the filling for crunchy texture. Personally, we find the dessert a little too candied.

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - Mousse Au Chocolate MMB

Mr & Mrs Bund, Sunday Brunch With View Of The Bund - A spoonful of the mousse

Next was the smooth chocolaty alcoholic Mousse Au Chocolat MMB. Between the Chocolate Mousse layer were Rum and Hazelnut.

NAHMJ Verdict

Dinning at Mr & Mrs Bund would certainly cause a significant damage to one’s wallet. Assess from the quality versus price, it may not be worthwhile.
