She looks so sweet with nice temperament. She is lucky to live in Brussels and not elsewhere as Brussels is such a dog friendly city that allows dogs in cafe and literally almost everywhere in the city. How I wish Singapore will soon be a dog friendly country?! And Cookies, our family dog, could roam around with us anywhere we go.

Macaroons
Macaroons

I am not a macaroon fan. But I find these macaroons though sweets but the cream tasted pretty natural. So still not too bad. My aunt and I, we shared the seven macaroons.

Belgium is world famous for its chocolate. There are many world reknown brand. One of my favourite chocolate brand is also from Belgium, Leonidas. When visiting Belgium, one would never want to miss out getting some chocolate for their family friends, and love ones. Moreover, chocolate has lots of health benefits too. A good reason to indulge on the chocolate. My list of chocolatier in Brussels.

The first being Mary Artisan Chocolatier. Mary was founded in 1919 by Mary Delluc at Brussels. The shop started in Rue Royale 73 and it is now still there. Mary was awarded the title of “Certified Royal Warrant Holder of Belgium” by the Kings in Belgium in 1942, 1990 and 1994. Mary’s collection can be categorised into Fresh creams, Ganaches, Pralines, Caramels, Truffles, Marzipans and Liquors. You can choose from the various beautifully crafted boxes to pack your choice of chocolates. I chose to patronize Mary when in Brussels. The chocolates were rich in chocolate taste, smooth to the palate and not too sweet.

That is the factory, not the outlet. The outlet is a few steps away from the factory, down the Avenue de Jette. Promotion differs from days to days, but you will get some very good bargain. It is worth checking it out at the store.

The first Belgian fries that we tried in Brussels, Belgium, was at a store near the Grand Place. It was fried till golden brown, and was piping hot and crispy. Delicious. Even my aunt enjoyed the fries very much. We decided that we needed for fries to satisfy our craving so our search for fries in Brussels began.

Maison Antoine founded in 1948 is a store specialised in Fries (frites in French for fries). It was known as the best fries in Brussels. At any time of the day, there is always a queue. We were at the store at about 3pm in the afternoon, there was long queue at its counter and you can see people sitting around the store enjoying the freshly fried fries.

Maison Antoine

The fries were thick-cut, crispy on the outside, soft in the inside, with strong potato taste. I prefer the thick-cut fries to the shoe-string fries. All fries were freshly fried and served.

Maison Antoine - French Fries

The fries were served in two sizes, big or small. You can choose the various dips to enjoy together with your fries. I like my fries with mayonnaise and ketchup. The shop sells other snacks as well but most people were there because of the fries. One other way the Belgians enjoy the fries was to sandwich the fries in a hotdog bun. We did not try that but would give that a try the next time.

There are two types of waffles served in Belgium. The Liege waffles or Brussels waffles. The Liege waffle tastes a little more chewy, more bread-like while the Brussels waffle is more crispy and hollow to the bite.

Maison Dandoy - Liège Waffles

The Liege waffle is a street snack in Brussels. Many shops along the streets are selling it either plain or with chocolate coating. Some served with whipped creams and fruits too. I like the Leige waffle better. We have our share of waffles from the shops along the street as well. One place which we tried both the Liege waffle and the Brussels waffle was at Maison Dandoy. It was said, this place served the best waffles in Brussels.

Maison Dandoy - Brussels Waffle

Maison Dandoy is a store, other than waffles, is famous for its cookies and its speciality, Pain à la Grecque (Greek bread). So if you are at the store, get some cookies and its speciality, the Greek bread to try.
