Koung’s Wanton Mee @ JEM is now opened. If you are one of those staying in the west who crave for their famous delicious Wanton Mee, you will be in cloud nine for this great news.
Selling the Wanton Mee from pushcart in the beginning to its first outlet at Geylang and now a second outlet by their 2nd generation, that’s a total of 56 years.
The Wanton Noodle available as dry or soup comes in small ($4.80) and big ($5.80). I opted the dry version with chilli sauce. Amount of noodles for a small portion was extremely generous. For the dry option, it comes with a bowl of soup and 3 wanton.
On the menu, there are 6 sides. I will surely order the tender flavourful Roast Char Siew ($5).
Roast Char Siew ($5)
Fried Wanton ($4/$5)
I couldn’t resist anything fried, so I will also turn to the crispy Fried Wanton ($4/$5). Koung’s rendition has a thicker skin wrap as compared to the rest, hence you will find the wanton extra crispy.
Fried Ngoh Hiang ($5.80)
Fried Ngoh Hiang ($5.80) is exclusive to JEM outlet. The entire texture is relatively smooth as the minced meat used in the roll is extremely fine.
Cheng Teng, Cold ($2.40)
Barley with Gingko Nut ($2)
Desserts are also exclusive to JEM outlets. Diners can opt for the cold desserts – Cheng Teng ($2.40), Jelly Bee ($3.40) or the hot desserts ($2) – Barley with Gingko Nut, Green Bean Soup and Black Glutinous Rice.
