Peach Garden Oishi Flavours of Japan – Raffles Place, Singapore

When we think of Chinese food, we don’t usually think of raw Uni (Sea Urchin), but in Peach Garden Oishi Flavours of Japan, the Chef waves lots of ingredients imported from Japan into the dishes. This wonderful creation is available from 2 March to 30 April 2020 as the Chinese restaurant welcomes the Cherry Blossom season. I visited the outlet located at OCBC Centre. Since it is next to Raffles Place MRT station, making it extremely accessible.

‘OISHI Flavours of Japan’ can be savoured at all seven outlets – OCBC Centre, Hotel Miramar, Thomson Plaza, NTU Blk N2.1, Chinatown Point, The Metropolis, and Changi Airport T2, except for the dim sum items which are only available at Thomson Plaza and Hotel Miramar.

Dim Sum

Three Dim Sum items are offered on this exquisite menu. First is the well-accepted Steamed Dumpling with Japanese Geoduck Clam 日本 象拔蚌饺子 ($7.80++); the taste profile is closed to the usual steamed dumpling.

A Uni fan, like myself find the added Uni, provided a creaminess and umami taste to the Steamed Siew Mai with Sea Urchin 海胆烧卖 ($8.80++); simply love it.

Lastly, a twist to the crowd-favourite Xiao Long Bao, using minced wagyu beef instead of pork is the result of the Japanese-inspired version of Steamed Xiao Long Bao with A5 Wagyu Beef 日本 A5 和牛小笼包 ($8.80++).

Dim Sum items are only available at Thomson Plaza and Hotel Miramar.

Highlights of Oishi Flavours of Japan Menu

Another Uni dish, Chilled Sea Urchin Tofu 海胆豆腐 ($22++). Silky tofu in century egg sauce with the Sea Urchin giving the dish an added-touch of creaminess and flavour.

The Poached Surimi-men with Japanese Oyster 日本生蚝灼鱼面汤 crowded with huge oyster is only available in set menu. Most love it but I am not a big fan as I find it a little too bland.

Personally I prefer the Pan-fried Shirobuta Pork with Chef’s Special Mala Sauce/ Black Pepper Sauce/ Mushroom Sauce 香煎日本白豚(师傅特式麻辣酱/黑胡椒酱/蘑菇酱) ($28++).

Before ending the meal with the dessert, Flaming Seafood Fried Rice in Whole Japanese Pumpkin 火焰原粒日本金瓜海鲜炒饭 ($28++) a fusion dish is yet another dish not to be missed.

Chow down the Sweet Temptation 精美甜品 comprises 2 desserts; A half-and-half creamy pumpkin and pandan-infused sweet potato paste, ‘Yuan Yang’ (“mix”) and a beautiful flower-shaped pastry filled with red bean paste infused with Mandarin peel.

NAHMJ Verdict

I was in awe with the creation. Not only with the quality of ingredients and the taste but certainly the price point is also an attraction.
