Botan Japanese Restaurant at Far East Square, Oishi – Telok Ayer, Singapore

Along Pekin Street at Far East Square, hidden a traditional Japanese restaurant, Botan Japanese Restaurant among the pubs.

Currently, it is helmed by Executive Chef, Thomas Kok, a pioneer of the Japanese culinary scene who prides on using premium ingredients air-flown from Japan.

Highlights from Menu of Botan Japanese Restaurant

Begin with some starters such as Pitan Tofu, Fugu Mirin Boshi (S$15++) or even Ikura Onsen (S$15++).

Crowd-favourite Ikura Chawanmushi (S$13++) is another fabulous choice other than the onsen.

If you love Prawn and Mentaiko Sauce, don’t forget to order the Ebi Mentaiyaki (S$18++).

If pork belly is your kind of food, don’t miss the melt in your mouth Hokkaido Pork Honey Black Pepper Yaki (S$18++).

Personally, I will opt for the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Beef (S$80++ for 100g).

At Japanese Restaurant, I will never miss ordering Sushi and Sashimi. Botan served one of the best. The assorted sashimi we tried were Isaki, Otoro Aburi (Flame Seared Tuna Belly), Salmon Belly, Hirame (Flounder), Hamachi (Amberjack).

Selection of sushi is fabulous with Engawa (Flounder Fin) – 2 piece Nigiri at S$18++, Anago (Salt-water Eel) – 2 piece Nigiri at S$24++, Aka Ebi (Argentine Red Shrimp) – Special for the day, price not available, Otoro with Uni (Tuna Belly with Sea Urchin) – Special for the day, price not available, Hotate (Scallop) – 2 piece Nigiri at S$16++, Aburi Salmon Belly with Mentaiko (Flame Seared Salmon with Mentaiko Sauce) – Special for the day, price not available, Crispy Maki (Deep-fried Salmon Roll with Furikake and Tobiko – S$16++, Hamachi (Amberjack) Belly with Caviar – Special for the day, price not available.

When the Nagasaki Sara Udon (S$16++) was served, we thought it was a Chinese dish. It resembled the Cze Char Crispy Noodle. The taste reminded us of the familiar dish though.

NAHMJ Verdict

I can’t wait to find friends who love Japanese food so that I could be back to Botan Japanese Restaurant soon.
