The Great Baan Ying Brunch On Weekends – Novena, Singapore (Ended)

Introducing The Great Baan Ying Brunch at the only outlet in Singapore, perched at the second floor of Royal Square @ Novena. In the form of semi-buffet with a choice of Main.

For those who frequent Bangkok must have heard of Baan Ying, which means ‘House of Ying’, started in 1999 at Bangkok’s Siam Square. I am sure among these travellers, might have tried them. The good news is that they landed on the shore of Singapore and find themselves a comfort nest at level 2 of Royal Square.

The Great Baan Ying Brunch

On rotational basis, on each weekend, diner could find 12 to 15 delectable spread. Priced at $38.80++ per adult and $19.40++ per child (four to ten years old; kids under three dine free; child price includes a complimentary fruit juice). Top up $29.80++ to enjoy free-flow of beer and wine from 11am to 3pm.

Homely item such as the Kai Jiew Koong (Omelette with shrimp & Onions). The Kiew Krop Na Tung (Crispy Wanton Skin with POrk and Shrimp Dip), great as snack.

My favourite among the spread is the Yum Pla Foo (Crispy Fish Flakes with Mango Salad Dressing). Highly aromatic with unique flavour coupled with the sourish, spicy appetising Mango Salad Dressing is simply divine.

Each day at The Great Baan Ying Brunch, there will be a soup of the day, fried rice of the day and Curry of the day. On the day of our visit, we got the appetising Tom Yum Gai (Tom Yum Chicken), tasty Khao Pad Moo Krob Kai Kem (Pork Belly Fried Rice with Salted Egg) and delectable Kaeng Ped Moo (Pineaple Curry with Pork).

At a glance, lots of pork dishes to rejoice.

Rarely seen is the Nam Prik of The Day, a type of Thai Chilli Sauce which are eaten with blanched vegetabales or glutinous rice. The spiciness level range from mild (with tomato) to fiery (with green chilli).

At The Great Baan Ying Brunch, diners have the opportunity to DIY your own Som Tum (Papaya Salad). Hence, you can customise your style of Papaya salad.

Dessert such as Rainbow Ruby, Purple sweet potato in coconut milk or coconut jelly might be available.

Choice of Mains

4 choices of Mains. All Mains has the baby corn and cherry tomato as sides.

First, which we think is the best, the Bone-in Iberico Pork Chop. An additional $9.80++ is needed when you choose this. Simple seasoning with pepper and salt to bring out the flavours.

A safe choice, select the Pan-fried Salmon Steak. What we enjoyed is the crispy skin.

Two large Grilled Large River Prawns with tasty lemongrass floss elevated the flavour. Though 2 might be too little in terms of quantity, however, it is the quality that is more important.

A pity, I didn’t get to try the Angus Beef Steak.

NAHMJ Verdict

The Great Baan Ying Brunch is value-for-money with lots of quality, tasty buffet spread. What’s more, there is choice of Mains too.
