I didn’t realize that at the basement of Peninsular Plaza, concealed a Myanmar Restaurant, Inle Myanmar Restaurant, though I know that this is the place where the people from Myanmar congregate. On the hind sight, it logical isn’t it?

 

This is my first experience of Myanmar cuisine. I didn’t know what to expect. Is it close to Chinese food, Thai or what. Full of anticipation and was pretty excited but some anxiety too. A friend who suggested this restaurant described it as interesting which left me some bewilderment. Among the group, there are one other who tried the real stuff in Myanmar, and she loves it. I trust her tastebud.

Inle Myanmar Restaurant isn’t a fine dinning restaurant but a functional, practical eatery with full service, from ordering to serving the food. So nothing classy or glam about the ambience. In fact, there is a strange and not too pleasant smell. I have to look beyond this factor to savour the food.

 

On the menu, are quite a number of Classic Myanmar food and the first is the Pickled Tea Leave Salad is a classic appetiser that is enjoyed day-to-day by local in Myanmar, making it a must to order then. I don’t remember any tea flavour but typical pickle with flavour, dominated by sour, not the overwhelming that cause your eyebrown to quirk, but smooth and pleasant to the palate.

If you love crispy deep-fried food, I would highly recommend the Crispy Eel. It is equivalent to crispy chips.

Next dish, Pork With Pickled Vegetables, reminds me of a Chinese dish, Preserved Vegetable with Braised Pork, 梅菜扣肉. Tasty, but not my kind of food since all I could focus on this dish is the oil and fats.

For some staple and Mains, Mohinga is yet another traditional dish that must try. Presentation and feel is akin to Mee Siam. But nothing close. It is rice noodle in fish soup.

Lastly, we have some Rice Noodle which I can’t recall the name of the dish, but if you like Kway Teow, dry, I am sure you will enjoy this.

 

 

NAHMJ Verdict

 

My take on my virgin experience on Myanmar food at Inle Myanmar Restaurant … a hybrid of Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese. You can let your imagine run wild before you dry. If are not conservative about food, a place worth exploring.
