Grand Hotel Bellevue, a 4-star hotel, isn’t my first choice when I made my trip in late January 2018 (winter). I was looking at Crowne Plaza Euralille instead. A pity it was fully booked. Making hotel reservation in Lille, other than summer is challenging especially when your trip is a last minute one.
Since I have restriction in terms of budget versus location, Grand Hotel Bellevue is my best bet.
The hotel is housed in a Flemish architecture.
Approximately, 16 rooms of the Grand Hotel Bellevue are facing the Place du Général-de-Gaulle (Grand Place). Rihour Metro Station is 100 m away. Numerous restaurants that are on Michelin Guide such as Jour de Peche, Monsieur Jean are within walking distance
Though with high ceiling, the lobby doesn’t look as grand as the 5-star hotel. It has this Victorian looking style.
This hotel still use the physical key instead of card. And whenever the guest leave the hotel, they would have to return the key at the counter.
Check-in and Check-Out
Hotel Staff spoke minimal English. A conversation for checking in and out isn’t an issue. All my experience was pleasant and speedy.
At Grand Hotel Bellevue, they offered 4 room types. First is the Traditional Room with either Double or Twin Bed, followed by the Double Room without window and then the Double Room with View of Grand Place and lastly the Privilege Double Room with a handful connecting rooms.
I stayed in the hotel for 3 weeks and got to try out all the room types.
Traditional Room With Double Bed
A 15m² room equipped with air-conditioned, Wifi, Minibar and satellite TV with no English channel, only French programmes.
The design of the room isn’t glam at all and not the friendly since the gap between the desk and bed is narrow. I appreciate the immaculately clean bathroom.
Traditional Room with Twin Beds
The other configuration of the Traditional Room is with Twin Bed, this one has the same amenities to the Double Bed one. Except that the gap between the bed and desk is wider which I prefer.
The colour scheme of the bathroom is different in each room and the layout per the Double Room is different as well.
Traditional Double Room Without Window
Only 2 of the traditional room does not have a window and the space is smaller at 13m² if I remember correctly. The
Interestingly, they offered bathrobe in this room which wasn’t available in the other Traditional Room.
And again the colour and layout are different. I like the one in blue better. All Traditional room has a bathtub, there isn’t a showering room.
Amenities are a handful with body lotion, vanity kit, shower cup, sewing kit and comb.
All things else are the same except that guest get to admire the Grand Place from the comfort of the hotel room.
A bigger room which is good for 2 to 3 guests, depending on the configuration. There are option of either 1 large double bed or 1 double bed with a single bed. The latter is the room that I got.
There Trouser Press in addition to the other facilities that are available in the Traditional Room.
Bathroom has both the bathtub and a separate showering area. However, there is a step leading to the small showering area. It is so tiny till I find it claustrophobic. Furthermore, it wasn’t quite well maintain, there were yellowish stain around the space. Furthermore, the toilet is separated from the bath area.
In the Privilege Room, the hotel offered bathrobe too and some biscuits and the tea bags were different too.
All room types has the minibar with handful or beer, juice, water and soft drink.
A Safe Deposit in the wardrobe.
And Coffee and Tea making facilities, found in the wardrobe too. Each bathroom has a hairdryer however it differ in model and brand.
Housekeeping standard was above average, though I do spot a few strands of hair on a few occasions and some yellow stain in a bathroom. At the very least, I don’t spot major dusty area.
Food & Beverages
There is no restaurant that offers other meal than breakfast.
A tiny space with several tables with decent breakfast with no change to the items are available. Not all room package offered breakfast though.
The only available F&B is the Le Windsor bar where guest could enjoy cocktails and drinks to wind down their day.
There isn’t a swimming pool or sauna in the hotel premise.
Laundry service is available at the hotel however, I find that they don’t take care of how they wash certain delicate clothes. At the end of the 3 weeks stay, some of my clothes look pretty worn and there are numerous tiny holes in my pyjamas (T-shirt material).
In addition, standard luggage storage is available.
No tightened security is offered at Grand Hotel Bellevue for accessing the room levels. In addition, the guests identify wasn’t verified during the collection of room keys.
Overall, rooms were quiet and clean with no English channels and functional amenities in the room. Some of the room does give an eerie vibe though.
