Singaporeans love buffet. And practically every hotel, ranging from the 4-stars hotel such Parkroyal On Kitchener Road, Concorde Hotel to 5-stars hotel such as Marriott Hotel, Shangri-La Hotel, Fairmont Singapore offers buffet line. Straits Cafe @ Rendezvous Hotel is one buffet spread that we visited recently for its Straits Buffet Spread which is befitting for the name of the restaurant.
Currently, Straits Cafe @ Rendezvous Hotel offers numerous promotion. The most attractive of them all is the Mastercard 2-for-2 Promotion till 30 April 2018. Exclusively for dinner buffet available from Mondays to Thursdays only. Terms and conditions applied.
I love the ambience. Firstly, the entire restaurant is brightly lit. The design is contemporary with peranakan motif and some straits icons.
At the buffet table, there’s always a counter decked with poached cold seafood. A medley of prawns, oysters, clams and some other crustacean.
Next, I will hit the “Live” station, which is always a highlight at Buffet line.
First and foremost is the Fried Sambal Seafood. You need to obtain the wooden peg which can be found at each table. Hand it over to the Chef and place your order with your favourite ingredients.
Spread include an array of seafood (prawns, mussels, squid, clams), and vegetables (tomato, kang kong, petai, lady fingers).
End product was mildly spicy. Drizzle some lime juice for some zest.
Next are Ipoh Hor Fun, Penang White Curry. At times, you may get Laksa. These Straits favourits are on rotational basis.
I tried only the Penang White Curry and this is my first attempt as such I have no ground for comparison.
At all buffet table, Salad are always available.
Followed by Kueh Pie Ti and Indian Rojak. Some lamented that it was a pity that Popiah was missing. While others felt that the assortment of Indian Rojak was limited.
Two soups were available. First is the Double-boiled Herbal Soup and the second is the Chicken Potato Soup. I found the former too bitter.
If you like Curry, there were Lamb Curry and Fish Cheek Curry. We love the former though the lamb meat can be more tender. If you enjoy your curry with bread, an assortment is available with Truffe Butter and Garlic Butter too.
Chilli Lobster was the next item that I lured my attention. A pity the lobster was a little overcooked.
More items such as Beef.
Steamed Fish and Assam Fish were part of the spread too.
For those who need some vegetables can turn to the Broccoli & Mushroom and Tofu.
Finally, Straits Cafe @ Rendezvous Hotel added mediocre Hokkien Fried Mee and Pumpkin Fried Rice as the Mains.
A mélange of dessert; Tiramisu, Kueh Lapis, Opera, Mango Cake and Strawberry with Vanilla Sponge.
Alternatively, choose from the spread of Nonya Kueh.
3 types of Fruits (Dragonfruit, Orange and Watermelon) and 4 flavours of Ice Cream (Cookies & Cream, Coconut, Taro and Strawberry)
Lastly is my favourite desserts, the Durian option. Among the 5 items, my favourite is the Durian Pengat.
NAHMJ Verdict
Utilising the Mastercard 2-for-2 promotion at the Straits Cafe @ Hotel Rendezvous is the best way to enjoy the favourites of the Straits buffet spread.
