This is my second time staying at Hotel Avalon Paris. The first was 5 years ago which I haven’t started my NAHMJ Food and Travel blog to review hotels, restaurants and document some travel information. Hence I came back to the same hotel when I was back to Paris in February 2018.
Hotel Avalon Paris is a 3 star hotel hence there isn’t much facilities, however, the advantage is the location.
Location
Hotel Avalon Paris is located 5 min away by feet from Gare Du Nord whereby travellers board the Eurostar and travelling northwards. At this station, you can RER B going to Charles de Gaulle Airport and RER D. In addition, there are Metro Line 4, 5 and also line K and H. This station is also linked to 2 other stations, Magenta with RER E and La Chapelle having Metro Line 2.
In the vinicity, it is also accessible to Barbes Rochechouart with line 2 and Poissonniere to line 7.
The hotel is close to thefamet attraction Sacre-Cour and Galleries Lafayette. However, you might want to avoid northward of Boulevard Magenta and Boulevard de Rochechouart as I find it a little uneasy with too many people banking around and even selling Metro ticket at the Barbes-Rochechouart station.
Lobby
They doesn’t have a fancy lobby like the 5-star hotels do. However, it is functional and decent.
Check-in and Check-Out
The staff who did my check-in, also the same staff who did my check-out spoke little English. However, I met one staff who spoke well before I left. He was extremely helpful. As I arranged for an airport transfer, and time was near, he called to confirm that the driver was on the way to pick me up.
Security
Hotel main door is locked at all time. The service staff at the reception has to be alerted and then the door will be opened. Guests don’t access their specific floor via access card.
Room
I got a st (Room 105). Period of stay was 1 February to 3 February 2018, for a total of 2 nights at €176. inclusive of VAT and tourist tax.
The room doesn’t has an in-room temperature control. Fortunately, I didn’t feel cold though find it a little stuffy.
Mattress is of foam with no spring hence the bed is very soft. Therefore, it doesn’t support the back well. Moreover, I don’t prefer soft bed.
I counted a total of 4 electric points (one was n used by the lamp), offering only the EU 2 pin-plug version.
Wardrobe size is considerable decent. A safe was included.
Hotel Avalon Paris offers 2 pair of ear plug, shoe mitt and sewing kit. From the offering, you might have guessed that the room can get quite noisy. The walls seem thin. Guests could hear the movement in the corridor and the traffic since the room is facing Boulevard de Magenta.
Though the room offers a television, they offer no international channels. All programs are in French.
A small table is offered with a comfortable cushy chair. At the table there are 3 electric points. It is here whereby one was used by the lamp.
One wouldn’t describe the bathroom as tiny although there is limited room for maneuver especially if one is big. For a small size for me, it is pretty all right though I prefer it to be a few centimeters larger.
Basic amenities such as Bath Gel, Shampoo and Soap were provided. Conditioner is missing. Fortunately, sufficient towels were provided. Tissues were offered too.
There is a step to the shower area. I like the design of adjustable shower height although, it is far too high to start with. It isn’t useful for someone who is only 1.54m tall. In addition, the hot water isn’t too hot, somewhere around 40℃ only. I appreciate the holder provided so that guest could place their toiletries.
Lastly, the view from the room as mentioned is facing road.
This room compared to the last one there are pros and cons. The last one was at the attic hence it was not a lift-landing level. It was accessible by a stairs. It was quieter perhaps not many guests at that level.
Breakfast
Hotel offers breakfast for guests too. I didn’t try as my room didn’t include hence it is at €12 per person.
Services
The hotel offers laundry services and there is a shuttle to both CDG and Orly Airport. The shuttle is cheaper for travellers of 2 and above which will cost €18 each. For individual travellers, it will be at €28 instead.
Like most hotel, they offer luggage storage too.
NAHMJ Verdict
Hotel Avalon Paris is a good option if Paris is a transist and you are travelling up north via Gare Du Nord. In addition, you must not be a light sleeper.
