Thailand's Stretchy Hokkaido-Style Cheese Toast 'Say Chiizu' Has Arrived In Singapore! - Smiley Staff at Say Chiizu

Thailand’s Stretchy Hokkaido-Style Cheese Toast ‘Say Chiizu’ Has Arrived In Singapore!

For those who are in love with Thailand’s Say Chiizu Cheese Toast, I have good news! The super insta-worthy and stretchy Hokkaido-style cheese toasts have arrived on our shores!

And they have opened not one, not two but FOUR takeaway kiosks island-wide, with a cafe and six more outlets in the pipeline! Excited yet?

On 15th January 2018, we headed down to Say Chiizu’s Vivocity kiosk, the first to open in Singapore. By the time we arrived around 6pm at the bright and cheerful kiosk, we noticed quite a queue forming.

Considering the smiley service, the adorable sunny yellow bear sleeves holding the cheese toasts PLUS waves of customers stretching their cheese toasts around the kiosk, the queue is hardly a surprise.

We immediately dove in for some pictures and noticed that there are three flavors of cheese toasts available – Chocolate, Original and Charcoal (S$3.80 each). The picture above shows all three flavors of the cheese milk breads (untoasted). Thailand supposedly has additional flavors (Matcha and Strawberry) and other cheese products (like cheese drinks and cheese fries) but the full menu will only be available in Singapore at a later date.

We quickly placed our orders to try all three flavors. All three toasts consists of the same Say Chiizu’s special blend of fresh cheeses mixed with imported Japanese milk served between toasted slices of homemade Hokkaido milk bread. Say Chiizu also insists on using ingredients with no additives or preservatives. Each flavor is differentiated by the milk bread’s flavor – chocolate, original or charcoal. Taste wise, the cheese at Say Chiizu has a more distinct sweet than savory flavor. Personally, I think this sweet cheese pairs best with the charcoal toast. For me, the other flavors interferes with the sweet cheese as they are also slightly sweet.

Upon receiving our toasts, we had loads of fun trying to compete who has the longest cheese tongue! After flopping once, we managed to have successful cheese pulls. Learning from our failure, we deem ourselves fit to give you some tips on a successful cheese pull. Do not begin stretching immediately after getting your cheese toast. Instead, wait about 20 seconds for the cheese to cool slightly before attempting the pull slowly. That said, you are advised not wait too long either; it is difficult to pull without heat. We hope you have fun with this cheese toast! And do let us know your thoughts after trying!

NAHMJ Verdict

We find the toasts slightly on the pricier side for the portion served. But considering that these stretchy cheese toast are tasty (if you like sweet cheese), fun to have and served adorably without additives and preservatives, we think that you should still give it a try.
