I heard alot of positive reviews about Mitzo Restaurant & Bar though it has since been long on my bucket list however I never planned time for it. Until a friend suggested Mitzo Restaurant & Bar for lunch. Thanks to her, finally, I made it to try out for myself. Read on to find out do we think if it was worth the rave.

 

I made the reservation through Chope. As usual the reservation was a breeze. When we arrived at 12pm, my reservation timing, at the entrance, we were greeted by a smiling crew who showed us to our table by the glass window. Though we get some view of the bustling street, it was rather warm.

 

 

 

Ambiance was funky at the bar around while the dining area consist mainly formal vibe. Mitzo doesn’t has the typical Chinese Restaurant decorations and feel. Instead, it is modern.

 

 

On the table was a plate of flavour-dusted thinly sliced peanuts with neatly-laid utensils.

 

 

 

Soup of the day was the tasty Old Cucumber Soup. I was extremely please with the soup since my greatest concern, oily was invalid.

 

 

 

The classic of Dim Sum, Steamed shrimp & pork dumpling and Royal shrimp dumpling with black caviar are never missing at every Dim Sum though, I don’t mind giving them a missed as we find them extremely mediocre.

 

 

Shrimp & chive crystal dumpling was a better option with light chewy wrap.

 

 

 

Personally, my choice of must-have at every Dim Sum is the Charcoal barbequed pork bun. Flavourful sweet barbeque pork in fluffy bun was enjoyable.

 

 

 

Though the filling of the Oven-baked black pepper chicken puff was tasty, the pastry was too thick.

 

 

Crispy beancurd prawn roll was tasty though no wow factor.

 

 

I love the Escargot Cheese Puff. Mainly because I love cheese and Escargot. However, the batter was a little too thick for my liking.

 

 

 

Flowy custard in the Salted Egg Custard Bun was certainly a welcome and was slanted towards the sweet spectrum. Mixed review among my dinning companions with more dislike than like. I belong to the latter.

 

 

Truffle Seafood stuffed in salted egg puff was disappointing. The stuffing was minute with thick batter.

 

 

 

Lastly was the Osmanthus Jelly. We love this refreshing floral dessert though I prefer it less sweet.

 

 

We ordered the Braised vermicelli with lobster claw and prawn ball (additional $10). Though I find it a little salt-lacking, we find the broth seafood rich. We loved it.

 

 

 

Finally was the ultimate signature of Mitzo Restaurant, the Mitzo special barbecued pork ($18). With BBQ pork, the Crispy roast pork belly ($18) is also a must. We prefer the latter. For me likewise, even though I am a big fan for barbecued pork, I didn’t enjoy the rendition by Mitzo. The caramelised sugar on the pork was overwhelming and hence, the overall feeling was a pork in a candy. Comparatively, the latter was outstanding with perfect ratio of meat and fats and more importantly, a crispy skin.

 

 

NAHMJ Verdict

 

We find Mitzo Restaurant & Bar on the overall a little underwhelming though there were a handful of dishes we love very much. The most disappointing factor was the highly raved signature didn’t meet our expectations. Nonetheless, food was generally above average, we enjoyed our lunch.
