Half Pound Burger Bar & Grill At Purvis Street - Signage

Half Pound Burger Bar & Grill At Purvis Street – Bugis, Singapore

Along Purvis Street, at every other unit, it is either a cafe or restaurant; ranging from French to Italian and even Cze Char and Chicken Rice. We recently made a visit to Yummo Chow and now we were at Half Pound Burger Bar & Grill. I have spotted them numerous times when I am along this stretch of road and have been making a mental note for visiting them.

It is not easy to miss them as the signage with its name Half Pound Burger is conspicuous. I was expecting the joint to be casual but not as funky as it was with lots of wall doodling. The warm lighting and yellow wall contributed to the welcoming feel.

Half Pound Burger Bar & Grill At Purvis Street - Menu

Per the name, it suggested Burger surely is their specialty. However I couldn’t identify the grill, perhaps only with Sirloin Steak.

Numerous attractive small plates great for sharing were spotted. A handful of recommendation by Half Pound Burger were Hot Wings ($12) and Salt & Pepper Squid ($14). We heeded the advice for the latter. Light, flavourful and crispy batter wrapped the bites of tender squid tightly. A side homemade tartar sauce accompanied the dish for those who love sauce.

Half Pound Burger Bar & Grill At Purvis Street - Crispy Wild Mushroom ($12)

The other small plate we ordered was the Crispy Wild Mushroom ($12). When served the truffle oil filled our senses. Beside truffle oil, parmesan cheese and parsely flavoured-up the mushroom. Dipping into the signature butter sauce was elevated the taste further.

Half Pound Burger ($22) was our first Main. When served, I was shocked at its size. Though on the menu, it was mentioned 220g beef patty, I couldn’t visualize the size till it was on the table. Due to the plentiful ingredients between the charcoal bun, the flavour was complex and yet complement well. One will find candied bacon, sliced cheddar, tomato, red onion ring, beet slaw and pineapple. Overall was a light sweetish fruity hint among the savoury taste. Instead of serving plain shoe string fries, they jazzed it up with truffle oil.

Half Pound Burger Bar & Grill At Purvis Street - Duck Confit ($20)

We love their Duck Confit ($20) as it was an healthier one which is less oily and less salty. The duck meat was fork-tender.

Half Pound Burger Bar & Grill At Purvis Street - Sticky Date's Pudding ($12)

Two choice of desserts were available on the menu which we have difficulty to decide. First was the Sticky Date’s Pudding ($12) which we order. The pudding was soft and fluffy but was a little too sweet for our preference. Comparatively, it wasn’t as fragrance as some which we have tasted. The second option was the Chocolate Molten Lava Cake ($14) which is equally tempting option.

NAHMJ Verdict

Lastly, our opinion of Half Pound Burger Bar & Grill? Though nothing wow, it was certainly a great choice for a hearty burger meal. We certainly will return for all that we ordered but skip the Sticky Date’s Pudding. Nevertheless, we will try the Chocolate Molten Cake instead. And of course many other items that were on the menu that we yet to try.
