My Makan Place Oferring Under $6 Mains At Tanjong Katong Road Offering Delicious Indonesian Selection With Passion – Tanjong Katong, Singapore

When I first heard about My Makan Place suited along Tanjong Katong Road, little did I imagine that this restaurant offering Indonesian dishes has a Chinese Chef. They aren’t Halal currently, however, it is in the pipeline. We were informed they might get their Halal certification by end of the year.

My Makan Place has a rich background in offering Indonesian food. They too like, Grazie, started as Hawker in the West such as Beauty World and then Jurong Country Club and now they have up their game. The Chinese Chef cum owner cook delicious Nasi Padang too, a pity currently this isn’t offered. What they have on their menu are 4 items with sparse number of homemade sides.

The lady chef loves cooking for friends and they too love her cooking as they find her food good enough for sales. With so much of positive encouragement and love, she started her F&B career.

From the facade, nothing lure my attention, until I step foot into the restaurant. It has such a whimsical decoration though I am sure the interior designer will not agree, however, I love it. The ornaments, the lanterns, brought back good old memories. Perhaps, it was added due to Mid-Autumn Festival that was round the corner.

First item which was highly recommended by the restaurant is the bite-sized Fried Spring Roll ($3.90). Crispy skin wrap filled with chicken. If they could have the skin a little thinner, it would be perfect.

Gado Gado ($4.90) prepared in the Indonesian-style with Ginger added to the finely grind peanut sauce to mix with the assorted blanched vegetables. Due to the ginger added, some of us find it unfamiliar. Hence, perhaps a minor twist to the ratio will work wonder.

My Makan Place At Tanjong Katong Road Offering Delicious Indonesian Selection With Passion - Tahu Goreng ($3.90)

Tahu Goreng ($3.90) was another dish which the Indonesian Restaurant recommended. Generous amount of sweet spicy sauce with Kecap Manis as the main ingredient and crushed peanut cum chilli drown the Fried Beancurd.

Coming to Mains, 4 noodle items only. They have differentiated themselves by offering a medley of noodle choices for the Mains; Yellow Noodle, Mee Hoon, Kway Teow and even Ramen and Udon. We love the idea of choosing our favourite noodles. If you can’t decide, consult the service crew for advice. They will inform you of which noodles go best with which item.

I am a Mee Siam ($5.90) fan however I find the gravy without much punch from the tamarind and chilli. We chose Mee Hoon and this is the only noodle that we were to complement well the sauce.

If you long to have Mee Rebus ($5.90) without the yellow noodles, here is a great news. We chose ramen and this turned out to be a perfect combination. Having noodles without the alkaline taste that is characteristics of the former noodle is such a bonus.

Mee Soto ($5.90) is a dish that I would highly recommend. Though I usually avoid this dish too, with the same reason, due to the culprit, yellow noodle. At My Makan Place, we could replace it with Kway Teow which we did or Udon and Ramen. All these combinations are great for this dish.

The rich spice and herb flavour in the soup elevated the flavour. Diners will find the overall flavour different to the rest but in a positive note. I love it.

The ultimate dish on My Makan Place menu is the Beef Noodle Soup ($9.90). We have it with Udon. Alternatively, the Ramen, Kway Teow and Yellow Noodles are ideal choices for this item too. This pricey item used premium short rib. Soup was rich and intense, the result was impactful on the palate.

My Makan Place At Tanjong Katong Road Offering Delicious Indonesian Selection With Passion - Drinks

Lastly, what to have for drinks? There are 3 homemade beverages; Ice Lemon Tea, Lemongrass and Pear Beauty Mix with the last drink being the most popular among diners. All 3 are at a very affordable price, $2.90. Aside affordable, I thought it was value-for-money too. What I like about the homemade drinks are they were lightly sweet.

NAHMJ Verdict

Dishes cooked at the My Makan Place were with lots of passion in the ingredients beside they strive to make every ingredients from scratch. Definitely, worth dinning here.
