Grazie Cafe At Whampoa West, Started As Hawkerpreneur at Serangoon Gardens - Facade

Grazie Cafe At Whampoa West, Started As Hawkerpreneur at Serangoon Gardens Food Centre – Boon Keng, Singapore

Grazie Cafe started out at Serangoon Gardens Food Centre offering pasta and some western dishes. We tried some of their dishes back in early 2016 and love their quality offering. And now, they have upgraded and took over the defunct Oh My Tian Cafe at Whampoa West.

They literally took over the entire space with almost no altering to the decoration of the space.

The well beloved carousel still existed.

The Mushroom Soup ($6.90) was still as good. Certainly one of the best in Singapore. One could bite into the chunky bites of mushroom, not only savouring the impactful mushroom flavour. Now instead of serving it as a plain bowl of soup with a garlic bread, it was covered with a pastry.

Chicken Ballotine ($15.90) was chicken thigh meat wrapped with minced chicken and spinach sat on a bed of shredded purple cabbage. We thought it was a little bland and we thought they could improve the stuffing with more ingredients such as perhaps bacon bites or with a Chinese twist, with water chestnut. The mash potato by the side were cold as it was to imitate potato salad. We love the flavours.

Grazie Cafe At Whampoa West, Started As Hawkerpreneur at Serangoon Gardens - Aglio Seafood and Vongole ($16.90)

Aglio Seafood remains as Grazie Cafe signature dish but it has been upgraded to Aglio Seafood and Vongole ($16.90) where clams were added. The prawns were still as huge and tons of clams were added. In fact, by adding clams, it elevated the seafood flavours of the dish.

Grazie Cafe At Whampoa West, Started As Hawkerpreneur at Serangoon Gardens - Yin-Yang Waffle

Since Grazie is now a cafe, desserts are also available on their menu. There are 8 flavours daily; with 4 mainstreams that are here to stay while the remaining 4 are rotated with some special flavours.

We went for the Yin-Yang Waffle, half buttermilk and the other charcoal. The waffle took us by surprise as the look doesn’t suggest that it will be good. The waffle was very crispy and the interior wasn’t the sort that are empty with lots of air-space. However, it was a little lacking in the buttery flavour. Ice cream has a smooth but wasn’t creamy enough texture. Flavour was decent however we would prefer if chocolate flavour could be more intense.

As for drinks, 2 categories, coffee and tea. We saw some interesting selection in both types of beverages. Under the coffee, Almond Latte ($6), Speculoos Latte ($6) and Pistachio Mocha Latte ($7) attracted our attention. For tea, Cold Brew such as Yuzu Brew Tea ($5.50), Sakura and passion Fruit ($6) and Lychee and elderflower ($6). We tried the Speculoos Latte and Yuzu Brew Tea which we think there are rooms for improvement though.

NAHMJ Verdict

We were glad to find out that the food quality at Grazie Cafe retained since they still insist of making everything even the sauce from scratch. In addition, there were items that were upgraded.
