Don’t be mistaken for the Sticky Wings in London. This Sticky Wings is a home-grown brand catering to Singapore palate, offering South-Asian flavours that will tantalise your tastebud. Located at Westgate and they have a strategic location as they are next to Starbucks. In addition, this fast food joint is a few steps to Jurong East MRT station, Exit D. Hence it is easily located.
The group that created Sticky Wings own the famous restaurant that most Singaporean will surely have visited at least once, and they currently running a promotion for diners to win $100k. And that’s Swensens, a familiar name. Beside Swensens, Tip Top which created the first Salted Egg Curry Puff belongs to the same group.
Since it is a fast food restaurant, every step from order to collection is self-service. The dine-in area is limited and they offer no air-conditioning. At the minimum, the seats are comfortable.
The main selling point at Sticky Wings is the crispy tasty Fried Chicken coated with bold, intense sauce. All the recipes were an effort developed through R&D by Sticky Wings. Diners could order the child-friendly flavour, Sticky Kecap Manis (Indonesian Sweet Sauce) which reminds us of the Soy Sauce Korean Fried Chicken. Alternatively, choose the fiery Spicy Flamin’ glaze which will put your tongue on fire, burning for a long time without sign of ceasing soon and you some will probably sweat and having bad runny nose and teary eyes. Hence try it if you dare. Otherwise, go for its natural state, the Naked.
Ordering is made easy. Diner will chose from the different set in a single flavour. A pity for now, they don’t allow mix and match. First is the Black Belt ($7.90) with 1 drumstick and 2 two-joint wings. Next is Knockout ($8.90) consisting of 1 drumstick, 2 two-joint wings and 2 half cut mid-wings. Followed by the Drumchucks ($9.20) that has 2 drumsticks and 1 two-joint wing. Lastly is the Level Up ($28.90) comprises 4 drumsticks and 8 two-joint wings.
There is an option of topping up with $2.50 to enjoy a soft drink and one side. Options of sides are Fries, My Butter Half – Butter Rice ($1.50 for ala carte) or Malasada – Portuguese Doughnut ($1.80 for ala carte).
For additional sides, Sticky Wings offers We Meat Again ($6.50) and Tat’s Egg-citing ($5.90). Both are straight-cut fries with minced beef rendang and salted egg sauce respectively. The spice was heavily flavoured in the rendang and salted egg sauce was solely savoury.
If you need more Fried Chicken for sharing, a good option is the Fury of Wings ($7.90).
Should diner looking for something for filling and substantial, turn to the Doughnut Burgers. At Sticky Wings, the burgers aren’t with the common sesame bun instead they offer it with Portuguese Doughnut. In these doughnut, besides the usual yeast, eggs and butter, evaporated milk is added to provide a lightly chewy texture.
Sticky Wings offered two flavour for their burgers. Aside, Cluckin’ Good a Lemongrass Chicken Thigh Burger, there is the Chick Magnet, a Salted Egg Chicken Thigh Burger. Both at $7.90 ala carte. Alternatively opt for combo at $10.40. I love the burgers since they used chicken thigh meat. Personally I prefer the latter.
Instead of soft drinks, diners could opt for the healthier option, Cold Press Juice.
NAHMJ Verdict
In a nutshell, we love the Fried Chicken though the batter is a little doughy. So remember to eat them while they are hot. I would certainly avoid the Spicy Flamin option and would gladly opt for the Sticky Kecap Manis.
