Kok Sen Restaurant At Keong Saik Street, A Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurant - Overview of Facade

Kok Sen Restaurant At Keong Saik Road, A Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurant – Outram, Singapore

Cze Char is one of the classic type of restaurant for Singapore. We at NAHMJ love Cze Char too. We have previously share post on some such as Hua Yu Wee, Keng Eng Kee and now we are featuring a Michelin Bib Gourmand Cze Char Restaurant, Kok Sen Restaurant 國成球記菜社. They are a familiar and popular icon to most and especially the senior folks, since they were around since the 60s.

I have always avoided dinning at Kok Sen Restaurant as it always involved long waiting time, I notice they do take reservation though. But as a friend from overseas was keen to find try them out, we headed out to dine there for an early dinner, at 5.30pm on a Thursday evening.

With only 2 of us, we could order limited dishes. Our first dish was the highly raved Claypot Yong Tau Foo ($15 / $23 / $30). Medley of vegetables such as brinjal, capsicium and tofu stuffed with mixture of fish and prawn paste was with minimum seasoning and fresh. Hence naturally-tasting. However, though the sauce was tasty, it was oily and a pity it couldn’t coat well onto the Yong Tau Foo.

Kok Sen Restaurant At Keong Saik Street, A Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurant - Prawn Paste Chicken ($13 / $26)

Next was the Prawn Paste Chicken ($13 / $26). It was with the perfect amount of prawn paste marinate however there were mainly breast meat on our portion which I detest. Hence wasn’t the best experience for me.

Kok Sen Restaurant At Keong Saik Street, A Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurant - Big Prawn Hor Fun ($17.50 / $35 / $52.50)

Finally we have the must order Big Prawn Hor Fun ($17.50 / $35 / $52.50). This Hor Fun is interesting, it was lightly spicy. Overall was tasty too.

NAHMJ Verdict

We will return to Kok Sen Restaurant for the Big Prawn Hor Fun and only when there isn’t a queue.
