Byblos Grill Offering A Slice Of Lebanese To Singapore At Bussorah Street – Kampong Glam, Singapore

Most of us aren’t as exposed to Middle Eastern Cusine, less even Lebanese. We recently have the opportunity to try them out at Byblos Grill located at Bussorah Street, in the area of Kampong Glam, where the famous Sultan Mosque (Masjid Sultan) is a stone-throw away.

Lebanese food is similar to the larger Middle Eastern Cusine. Diners will spot dishes such as Kebab, Hummus, Baklava, commonly seen on Middle Eastern and Greek Restaurants. Food offerings is similar to BAKALAKI Greek Taverna. Hence, diners could expect Lebanese food seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and a variety of warm spices. Large amount of fresh vegetables, chickpea and lamb meat served with bread or rice are part of the diet.

Byblos Grill Offering A Slice Of Lebanese To Singapore At Bussorah Street - Lemonade Mint ($7.90)

Founded by Lebanese Master Chef Mohamad Salim who formerly was chef at the Burj Al Arab, the only seven star hotel in Dubai. Under his belt is a total of 15 years of experience in the food and beverage industry. He truly believes in showcasing only the best and authentic Lebanese food to Singapore, hence all ingredients were imported. This is true for his cooking utensils too.

Kicked start the meal with a refreshing drink, Lemonade Mint ($7.90), which was best to combat the sweltering Singapore weather. Mint perfectly complemented the well-balance of sour and sweet Lemonade. I thought might be a great idea to make it into a Soda drink.

Byblos Grill Offering A Slice Of Lebanese To Singapore At Bussorah Street - Mezza Platter ($27.50)

At Byblos Grill, there are Hot and Cold Mezza Dishes as starters. We highly recommend the Mezza Platter ($27.50) especially if you are first time trying them out, since on this platter consists of 5 Cold Mezza (hummus, babaganoush, labneh, moussaka’a and Moutabbal) and a salad drizzled with pomegranate sauce.

How do you enjoy the spread on the platterr. Simply tear a piece of bread and scoop the dip. Alternatively, use a fork or spoon to assist and spread it generously on the bread; a method which I very much prefer.

Among the 5 different spreads, the crowd favourite was the Hummus (chickpea) and followed by the Labneh (yogurt).

Another common sight is the Wara ‘Inab ($11.90), rice with parsely, onion and tomato wrapped in Vine leaves. Pretty tasty.

End the meal with Rice Pudding ($7.50) and Baklava ($12.90). I was surprise to find their dessert less sweet than their Greek neighbour. The rice pudding is kind of similar to our Chinese dessert, Black Glutinous Rice.

Unlike the Greek Baklava, Lebanese Baklava wasn’t soaked in heavy syrup.

NAHMJ Verdict

Overall, the flavours at Byblos Grill was tasty with sparingly spice in the dishes, comparatively with their Greek counterpart. We thought it would be a good start for anyone is trying Middle Eastern Cuisine for the first time.
