It is amazing to know that in Singapore there are lots of private museum. One of which I recently got to know about it is The Gem Museum located at Queen Street. This museum features Gem stones. And they are proud to present “A Galaxy of Moons & Stars” exhibition for the 10th edition of Singapore Night Festival 2017.
This museum is founded on 1 June 2015 by Ms Loke Huiying and Mr Tay Kunming. Its aim is to bridge the gemstone industry and the rest of the world. At this Gem Museum, visitors could admirer variety of gemstones and minerals that were found worldwide. Most of the gems and minerals are private collection of Far East Gem Institute’s founder, Mr Tay Thye Sun.
The Gem Museum created a total of 6 Arts pieces using rare natural Moonstones and Star Stones to exhibit the beauty of our universe. At this exhibition, it was pretty interactive. Visitors will need on the lights on their mobile phone and shone on the picture or rather the gem to reflect the rays so as to admire the gems.
Characteristic of Moonstones is the glow of white or blue shimmer (chatoyancy or adularescence). The finest and most abundant sources are from Burma, Sri Lanka and India. Star Stones features special star effect (asterism), cat’s eye effect (color gradation), flickering light (adularescence) and rainbow effect (iridescence).
First is a picture inspired by the Van Gogh Starry Night with Star Sapphires decorated the “sky”.
Next is the Glowing Stars, using Star Diopside gems to decorate the night.
Subsequently, the Forest Night with shining moonstones in the night skyline.
Star Rubies is the highlight in this Comets picture.
Lots of gem stones such as the Cat’s eyes, Rose Quartz and Star Stones were used to create the aurora effect in this Mountain Aurora.
Finally, the Moon and Stars using both Moonstones and Stars Stones in the picture which sum up the entire Galaxy of Moons & Stars exhibition at the Singapore Night Festival 2017.
Besides these 6 pieces of Gemstones arts, the museum will run a short presentation to educate visitors the science behind the beauty of these gems. Admission to The Gem Museum is free and hours will be extended till 10pm during the Singapore Night Festival (24 to 26 August). After which normal hours resume.
