Cafe del Volcan
80 Yong Kang Lu (near Xiangyang Lu)
Tel: +86 15618669291
Opening Hours: Daily 0800 to 2000
Cafe del Volcan is one of the most popular cafe in Shanghai, attracting many expats and also local. Beside serving freshly brew coffee with some cakes and cookies, they roast their own beans. If you prefer to brew your coffee at home, you can also purchase their beans.
446 Fuzhou Lu, near Fujian Zhong Lu
Tel: +86 1391 852 9119
Opening Hours: Daily 0800 to 1900
A quaint little cafe tucked a distance away from The Bund with a bookshop diagonally across the street. Due to the mainly white colour theme, the cafe appears sleek, modern and chic. Cafe Begonia serves mainly coffee but if you are keen, pair it with some cakes.
Cafe on Air
634 Huaihai Zhong Lu, Unit 650 (near Ruijin Er Lu)
Tel: +86 6333 2195
Opening Hours: Mondays – Fridays 1000 to 1800 | Saturdays – Sundays 1030 to 1900
Hidden from the sight of the bustling shoppers, it isn’t easy to find Cafe on Air, awarded the Time Out‘s Best Cafe of Shanghai 2015 award. The coffee and ambience was perfect, a pity cakes was not fantastic which I would recommend skipping totally.
215 Fumin Lu, near Changle Lu
Opening Hours: Daily 0800 to 2100
Dressed in contemporary theme with open facade integrating the outdoor and indoor seamlessly. With such design, the disadvantage is the that the cigarette smoke diffuse into the indoor space with ease.
Like many outstanding cafe in Shanghai, FUMI serves coffee with simple cakes. Luckily these cakes were decent.
Second floor, 218 Fengxian Lu, near Nanhui Lu
Tel: +86 5273 5855
Opening Hours: Daily 0800 to 2200
Ming Qian Cafe is my ultimate favourite cafe in Shanghai which I will highly recommend. Offering about 6 to 8 beans daily with very unique and hardly seen beans from region such as Yunan and even India. It is rare in Shanghai that the cakes served were equally good.
415 Shanxi Bei Lu, near Beijing Xi Lu
Tel: +86 135 6475 5689
Opening Hours: Daily 0830 to 1900
At Sumerian, beside coffee, they served an array of brunch items. And the most noticeable food is the Bagel, offering as much as 4 flavours each day.
34 Yongkang Lu, near Xiangyang Lu
Opening Hours: Daiyl 0800 to 2200
Lastly, Pain Chaud is a bonus addition to this post. What I like about this outlet is that it is bakery cum cafe; offering the best of both world.
These are 6 plus one Shanghai cafe that NAHMJ highly recommend to all, especially if you have limited time to explore Shanghai.
