Open Door Policy introduced a menu of only gluten-free dishes since last year. We were impression on our first visit in October 2016. After a year, ODP launched new dishes and retaining some popular ones. We tried and we assured you that the Open Door Policy Revamped Menu For 2017 is equally delicious.
We didn’t notice any changes to the interior. The same structure and the same interior design were present.
Open Door Policy Revamped Menu For 2017
After scrutinising the menu, I noted a handful of items that were found on the original menu remained on Open Door Policy Revamped Menu For 2017. Such as Garden Quinoa ($20) in the starters; King Crab Orecchiette ($28), Vegan Maccheroni Pasta ($25), Diary-Free Date & Walnut Cheesecake ($16), Signature Fluffy Souffle ($16). It seems the price either maintained the same or there is a slight reduction.
Starters
Out of 7 starters, we tried 4 of them. Beginning with 2 soups, both are the thick soup, akin to the cream soup.
First is a western soup infused with a Chinese Herb, Wolfberries plus a poached egg in the Watercress Soup ($18). By the side is the gluten-free fried bread. This is a vegetarian option.
Followed closely was the Warm Wasabi Green Pea Scallop Soup ($23). Both soup consist of fried bread which were extremely delish. Though the soup resembled cream-based kind but it wasn’t at all cloying-creamy feel. On the contrary, it was light with the desired smooth texture.
Coming up next is the Avocado Jumbo Lump Crab Salad ($25) which is one of my favourite starter in the Open Door Policy Revamped Menu 2017. This superfood is rich not only with the “good” fats such as Monounsaturated Fats and Vitamins K but many more. In it there was a sweet pleasant fruity flavour emitted from the salad that truly elevated the otherwise flat flavour of avocado.
Vitel Tone ($25) is yet another dish that I love. Degusting of tender veal together with the crispy bread was such a joy.
Mains
We tried two third of the 9 Mains. Starting with 2 risotto. First is a vegetarian option, the Vegetable Tempura Risotto ($25). Despite being a meatless dish, the flavour was complex. Subtle ginger aroma releases among the sweetish vegetables flavour in the rice was the key making this dish beautiful. To my surprise, it was my favourite Main.
Veal Ossobuco ($32) is a dish consisting of tender, bold-flavoured braised veal sat on a bed of risotto with green pea aroma. The veal simply melt in the mouth.
Spaghetti Alle Vongole ($28) found favour with many diners of that night. On the contrary, it was my least favourite. The al dente spaghetti similar to the Chinese “thick” Mee Hoon was with white miso sauce and was covered with abundant clams. Overall, I find the flavour too flat.
With the many Green cabbage, it emits a Chinese dish vibes. In addition, below the Sous Vide Salmon ($32) hidden a mellow daikon too. Even though I like neither salmon nor sous vide food, I actually have a good impression of this dish.
Pan Seared Threadfin ($32) with Thai Mango salad that resemble more of Yu Sheng cum potato cubes was the second fish dish we tried. The Threadfin has a similar texture to the Seabass which I like. Hence at anytime, I would certainly choose this dish over the Salmon.
Our last Mains for the Open Door Policy Revamped Menu For 2017 was the Roasted Pork Rack ($38). Naturally pork rack grilled to perfection with spicy pineapple sauce to elevate the grill.
Desserts
It’s always a bliss to end the meal with desserts. The gorgeous looking Calamansi Chocolate Tart ($16++) won hands down in terms of look and taste. The lightly sourish refreshing calamansi fragrance paired well with the chocolate tart. Though personally I thought pairing it with butter tart may be a choice. If I were only allowed to choose one dessert from Open Door Policy Revamped Menu 2017, I would no doubt chose this very dessert.
Dairy-free Apple Crumble ($16++) was equally marvellous. With 8 spices and oats, expect a robust flavour among the crunchy apple.
NAHMJ Verdict
After almost a year worth of research and experiment, the dishes on the Open Door Policy Revamped Menu For 2017 exceeded my expectation.
