Tiong Bahru Bakery Introduces Unique Pancake Burgers In Their New Dinner Menu At Raffles Place – City Hall, Singapore

We all know Tiong Bahru Bakery for their outstanding coffee and mouth-watering French pastries like Croissant and Kouign Amann. But did you know that since expanding out of Tiong Bahru, they are also whipping up hot dinners at Raffles City? In their latest revamped dinner menu, Tiong Bahru Bakery has something interesting for your taste buds. Behold as we present you three unique Pancake Burgers from Tiong Bahru Bakery!

First up is the American-style Breakfast Pancake Burger (S$20++) and perhaps the most conventional of the lot. After all, we are all used to having pancakes with sausages, bacon, eggs and hash browns at McDonald’s right?

The differences here are

(1) we can also have this for dinner

(2) this is assembled as a burger (but you are welcomed to eat the items separately)

(3) organic New Zealand fried egg is used (taste the difference)!

Overall, I like this as all the ingredients are delicious and the pancakes are sufficiently fluffy. All the ingredients also work well together as a dish hence it is my favorite pancake burger here.

Next, we have the Japanese-Korean Kim Cheesy Pancake Burger (S$23++)! Expect a Panko tofu patty with sauteed cabbage and sweet bean sauce sandwiched between Kimchi pancakes (this is not your typical crispy Korean pancake but the fluffy and cake-like American pancakes) then topped with mayo and smoked bonito flakes like an okonomiyaki. While the tofu patty is salty on its own, it pairs pretty well with the pancakes. I also like the tofu’s texture. However, I was disappointed by the lack of kimchi flavor in the pancakes.

Overall, this is an interesting dish and the ingredients blend well with each other. However, I am not keen to finish the whole pancake burger by myself. I wouldn’t mind sharing it with two or three friends though.

Lastly, we have the most radical of the group, the rojak-style PB&B Pancake Burger (S$23++)! At first glance, this looks like a typical dessert pancake topped with cream and drizzled with salted caramel sauce. After all, it is named PB&B, which is peanut butter and bananas right? Umm..No. Then what does PB&B stands for?

Beneath that top layer of caramelized bananas, crushed peanuts (I am sure they are a decoy) and ricotta cheese (I prefer if it is cream) lies crispy bacon and pork belly! So PB&B is actually Pork Belly and Bacon!

Overall, I enjoyed the tender and flavorful five spiced pork belly, the crispy bacon and caramelized bananas with salted caramel sauce on their own. Unfortunately, I don’t fancy them together in one dish. I took a bite of the whole pancake with the three layers all in and I felt really confused about the taste. However, when you eat the bacon with pancake as an appetizer, followed by the pork belly with pancake as a main, ending with the caramelized bananas and peanuts with pancake as a dessert, this might work. But the ricotta cheese still has to go!

Apart from pancake burgers, you can also look forward to other new dinner items like the Rainbow Rice Bowl 2.0 (S$22++), DIY Prawn Croquette Wrap (S$21++) and more!

NAHMJ Verdict

Personally I am not a big fan of savory pancakes (I prefer dessert pancakes) so I am not too impressed with the pancake offerings by Tiong Bahru Bakery this time. If you are a fan of savory pancakes though, it may be worth giving the unique pancakes at Tiong Bahru Bakery a try.
