At this corner behind the Lobby of Tower B hides an unit which was copied by Marmalade Toast for a long time which I popped by once a while. Then the short-lived Saint Pierre Market which I have never been. Now, Grand Jete Cafe & Bar finds home here.
I chanced upon Grand Jete Cafe & Bar when I passed by the area. I didn’t even realise that Saint Pierre Market was closed. What attracted me into the cafe was the poster of their signature Apple Pie.
Ambience at Grand Jete Cafe & Bar is warm mainly due to the orange lighting used. The furnitures reminds me of the Fairy Tales or Granny Kitchen. Beware, the chairs slides to the back when you take the seat so you need to be careful. At a corner, there are two cushy seats which I am sure most would go after.
Menu at Grand Jete Cafe made up of mainly Sandwiches and Salad with 8 and 7 items respectively. Other includes Pasta and Rice. In addition, a handful of desserts. And they pride them for offering items using fresh produce air-flown from Japan.
During weekdays lunch, every order of Pasta and Sandwich, complete the meal with a soup by topping $4. The amount of soup is about 4 soup-spoonful. I chose the NZ Mussel Chowder ($6 for ala carte). I find the soup a little too creamy for my liking and lacking of the seafood flavour in the soup, the flavour was dominated by the cream.
Honey Mustard Chicken Sandwich ($13.80-whole / $6.90-half) was my choice sandwich. Fortunately, I ordered half as it was huge. Between the white pillowy bread were lots of greens and thick chicken thigh. The honey mustard are on the ends of the sandwich instead on the chicken thigh which I prefer. And I like the lotus chips.
Next the Japanese Keema Curry ($14.50) was on the sweeter end. It taste better with lots of yolk.
Various tea, bottled juice and a few smoothie was available. I tried the Earl Grey Lavender ($5) which preferably in a pot instead of serving in a cup.
The Mango Smoothie ($8.50) was quite sweet. It didn’t taste like it was blended with mainly fresh mango.
Lastly, the Grand Jete Apple Pie ($3.40), Grand Jete Cafe & Bar signature item.
Don’t be fooled by the photo. The actual item was approximately 5 cm long in diameter. The look and taste is similar to the Danish Pastry instead of the pie.
NAHMJ Verdict
Grand Jete Cafe & Bar serve some decent food. The selection is more suited as my lunch choice instead of dinner. And if I need to dine alone during dinner, I wouldn’t mind this place too.
