LiHO Cheese Tea! Have You Tried Them Yet? – Singapore

We just got over a BAKE cheese tart fever. But here comes another cheese craze! Now available in the form of Cheese Tea from LiHO! Are you ready for this bizarre drink that is immensely popular in China and Malaysia now?

As the name suggests, Cheese Tea is tea with cheese. Simple. But is that scoops of hot nacho cheese added into a cup of hot tea? Or a slice of Kraft Cheese melting in a cup of hot tea (like how the Koreans eat their instant noodles)? Perhaps it involves some shredded mozzarella added into hot tea?

None of the above.

While I am not sure how other brands like Hey Tea in China and Chizu in Malaysia do it, LiHO uses their own proprietary melted cheese mix that includes Gouda cheese, cream, fresh milk and other secret ingredients. LiHO Cheese Tea can also be enjoyed both hot and cold.

So, is the taste of cheese tea as strange as it sounds?

Actually No.

LiHO Cheese Tea! Have You Tried Them Yet? Singapore - Cheese Foam

For me, the savory cheese mix at LiHO is similar in taste to Gong Cha’s milk foam. The texture though is much thicker so more shiok to drink. And if you are worried about jelat-ness, don’t be. After months of R&D, LiHO has perfected a cream cheese recipe that is light, creamy and slightly salty, one that most people should be able to accept. However, die-hard cheese fans might be a little disappointed.

LiHO recommends three ways to drink the cheese teas- Slurp it, Gulp it or Mix it!

LiHO Cheese Tea! Have You Tried Them Yet? Singapore - Specially Designed Lid

LiHO Cheese Tea! Have You Tried Them Yet? Singapore - Remove stopper from lid

Slurp it! Each cup of cheese drink is served with the cheese as a separate layer from the tea/smoothie. To enjoy just the savory cream cheese topping, remove the mini heart-shaped seal from the resealable spout on the cup lid and slurp away!

You can continue to slurp it until you taste sips of the base drink. Or you can also choose to gulp it next!

LiHO Cheese Tea! Have You Tried Them Yet? Singapore - Lid with straw and stopper

Gulp It! To try the base drink on its own, put the straw into the designated straw opening and gulp the drink!

You can continue to gulp it until you taste the cheese layer at last. Or you can switch between slurp it and gulp it.

LiHO Cheese Tea! Have You Tried Them Yet? Singapore - Mixed Up Jing Syuan Tea

Mix It! Finally, you can also try to mix the cheese and base drink to get a salted milk drink. I don’t know how to do this elegantly so I just remove the cap and mix the layers with my straw. If you think of a better way, let me know!

Apart from Cheese Teas, LiHO also serves non-cheese-teas and non-teas. And below are my favourite LiHO drinks! Try LiHO and let me know what are yours!

LiHO Cheese Tea! Have You Tried Them Yet? Singapore - Cheese Jing Syuan Tea (S$5.10 Nett)

Cheese Tea Category – Cheese Jing Syuan Tea, 30% Sugar (Large – S$5.10 Nett)

I enjoyed the light floral flavor in LiHO’s Jing Syuan Tea. The flowery tea is nice whether on its own or mixed in with the cheese foam.

LiHO Cheese Tea! Have You Tried Them Yet? Singapore - Cheese n Choc Smoothie (S$6.90 Nett)

Cheese Non-Tea Category – Cheese ‘n’ Choc Smoothie, 30% Sugar (Large – S$6.90 Nett)

This tastes like Milo with salted milk foam! They also have a Ovaltine version but I have always been a Milo supporter so this is my choice! While the sweetness is alright, I think I might try going kosong (0% Sugar) next time to see which tastes better.

LiHO Cheese Tea! Have You Tried Them Yet? Singapore - Fresh Lemon Juice + White Pearl + Golden Ai Yu (S$5.10 Nett)

Non-Cheese & Non-Tea Category – Fresh Lemon Juice + White Pearl + Golden Ai Yu, 30% Sugar (Large – S$5.10 Nett)

Their freshly squeezed lemon juice is a refreshing drink that tastes perfect with 30% sugar. I also enjoyed the combination of lemon juice with Ai Yu and White Pearl (known as “kanten”, this is supposedly a low calorie agar agar made from seaweed).

NAHMJ Verdict

The cheese topping in LiHO’s Signature Cheese Teas is not overly rich so most people should be able to accept it. If you are in doubt, I say just give it a try!
