I am sure most are familiar with Crystal Jade. We previously visited Crystal Jade Prestige at Marina Bay Financial Centre as they introduce new dishes. And now we are turing to Crystal Jade Kitchen Refreshed Menu.
Crystal Jade Kitchen is located throughout all areas in Singapore and within Orchard there are about 3 of them. Most may know about the one at Ngee Ann City and the other at Plaza Singapura. But maybe unfamiliar with the third. Diners maybe surprise to find them on the third level of the newly renovated Centrepoint.
The design of this outlet at Centrepoint is different from the rest with a contemporary design theme.
Crystal Jade Kitchen Refreshed Menu
Crystal Jade Kitchen Refreshed Menu is available at all its outlet. It isn’t specific for only the Centrepoint outlet. In fact, at this very outlet, there is no Rice Roll.
Dim Sum
Whenever at a Chinese restaurant, having Dim Sum is inevitable. And having Steamed Siew Mai with Crab Roe 蟹皇蒸烧卖 ($4.80 for 4pcs) and Steamed Ha Kau 水晶鲜虾饺 ($6.30 for 4pcs) are a must. The fillings are generous and fresh with minimum marinate as such one could savour the natural flavour.
Pan-fried Carrot Cake with Dried Shrimp and Preserved Meat 香煎萝萝卜糕 ($4.80 for 3pcs) is another usual Dim Sum item which most diners would order. Me too. The outer cake is lightly crispy with soft and not too dense interior. The dried shrimp and preserved meat augmented the flavour resulting in a highly fragrance dish.
Coming up next is an extraordinary Lotus Paste bun Q版点心 ($5.30 for 3pcs). Unlike the usual plain bun, this comes in 3 ultra cute characters. First is the lovely pink-coloured Porcupine. Some said hedgehog. Whatever it is, it is certainly cute.
Next is the plump looking yellow chick. Last which is not available on the day was the piglet. These 3 characters are rotated on a daily basis. So if you want a snap of them, do patron Crystal Jade Kitchen often.Despite having different shape, the filling within the bun are the same lotus paste. I am not a fan of the lotus paste as I always find them too sweet. Likewise for these.
Appetiser
Though I am not a fan of the fat-laden Pork Trotter with Ginger and Vinegar Stew 猪脚醋 ($12.80), I actually quite enjoy the version dished out in the Crystal Jade Kitchen Refresh Menu. The vinegar wasn’t overwhelming. And it has a good portion versus the braised ingredients. And I value that it wasn’t cloying oily. I favour the quail egg over the trotter though.
Chef at Crystal Jade decided to bring back a traditional dish, the BBQ Red Sausage 烧红肠 ($13.80 reg). Thought it might look intimating with the entire sausage looking red, the taste is akin to the Taiwanese Sausage and it is leaner.
Wok-Fried Specialties
The wok-fried specialties dishes are the highlight at the Crystal Jade Kitchen Refreshed Menu.
Kick-start with Braised pork belly with beancurd and chive 大马站煲 ($16.80) is one a tasty dish that is best with rice. The salted fish like aroma is the fermented bean. With such a savoury flavour, the sauce is fabulous with white rice. The beancurd is smooth and jelly like while the braised pork belly elevated taste.
Scrambled Egg with Tomato 番茄炒蛋 ($13.80) a homey dish will certainly find favour with most however not me who doesn’t enjoy tomato though I love my egg. This dish will never go wrong.
Curry Beef Brisket 咖喱牛腩煲 ($17.80) is another dish great with white plain rice. In fact most at the table were craving for prata. The curry in this dish smell and taste like the Indian Curry which we have with prata. The beef brisket was tender. The potato in the curry was lightly fried as such it has a good bite-texture instead of the melt in the mouth.
Lastly, the luxurious Mui Fen is the Hokkien Fried Rice 福建炒饭 ($16.80). Beside having lots of dice seafood and roast meat cum vegetables making it healthier, the sauce is poured over Egg Fried Rice instead of usual white rice. Hence, the entire dish is extremely flavourful though most find it a little too salty.
Desserts
Round-up the meal with some desserts. With a 6 appalling crowd-pleasers to choose from the Crystal Jade Kitchen Refreshed Menu, diners are surel tempted to order all. Among the 6, the newly introduced dessert is the lightly sweetened Pumpkin Paste with Black Glutinous Rice 南瓜黑糯米 ($4.80). The black glutionus rice provided a little crunch which was interesting.
Otherwise, opt for the as alway popular Mango Puree with Pomelo and Sago 杨枝甘露 ($5.80). This version is a little milky with light mango flavour. Or opt for the refreshing Lime-flavoured Jelly with Aloe Vera 芦荟酸酐冻 ($4.80).
For traditional deserts choices, there are Osmanthus Jelly with Wolfberry 杞子桂花糕 ($4.30), Herbal Jelly 龟苓膏 ($5.30) and Black Sesame Glutinous Rice Dumpling in Ginger Soup 姜茶芝麻汤圆 ($4.80)
NAHMJ Verdict
Crystal Jade Kitchen Refreshed Menu offers lot of appetising delish Wok-Fried items which is great for sharing among family and friends.
