Peranakan Buffet At The Royale At Mercure Singapore Bugis Hotel – Bugis, Singapore

We have previously introduced some Peranakan restaurant such as The Peranakan at The Claymore Connect and Tingkat Peramakan at Food Republic VivoCity. If you are looking for buffet here is now. The launch of the Peranakan Buffet At The Royale would certainly satisfy your craving for this cuisine. This is available for dinner on Friday, Saturday and Public Holiday only, from now till end of June 2017. (It has been extended to 26 August 2017)

The Royale restaurant is an all day dining restaurant situated at level 3 of Mercure Singapore Bugis Hotel.

The design of the restaurant looks classy and comfortable as it has lots of cushy cream-coloured seats and tables spaced at a good distance offering some privacy.

These mouthwatering dishes ranging from appetizers, Mains and even a live station are whipped and manned by the kitchen team led by Executive Nicholas Sia.

Peranakan Spread

When we hear Peranakan Food, most would think of the Chap Chye and indeed it is a must to have and made available at the buffet. First and foremost, soup might be quite an interest to most diners, though not me. There is only 1 soup, the Duck Soup with Salted Vegetable. It was tasty.

Other classic Perankan dishes such as Babi Pongteh, Itek Sio and Assam Prawns are part of the spread.

A number of curry were found at the Peranakan Buffet At The Royale such as Chicken Curry With Potato, Beef Rendang and Assam Fish.

Fried Mee Siam is one of the rare find. These at The Peranakan Buffet at The Royale were considerably tasty and fragrance.

Peranakan Buffet At The Royale At Mercure Singapore Bugis Hotel - Lemongrass Fried Rice

One of the item that was very well received is the sounds weird but yet delish Ginger and Lemongrass Fried Rice. It came as a surprise that Lemongrass do complement the rice well.

Peranakan Buffet At The Royale At Mercure Singapore Bugis Hotel - Nonya Laksa and Mee Rebus cum Satay, Pandan Chicken and Otah

If what we mentioned so far does not satisfy your Perankan appetite, there are also Nonya Laksa and Mee Rebus cum Satay, Pandan Chicken and Otah. These are available at the ‘live’ station. In addition, Popiah is available too. Among these, I love the Nonya Laksa. It has the perfect ration of spice to coconut milk. I am not a Mee Rebus fan and I find it a little too sweet, while Pandan Chicken and Otah were decent.

More options

Since it is food, we do expect more selection other than the true Peranakan food, there is a seafood station offering poached cold prawns and clams and raw oysters.

Coming to the hot food, there Singaporeans and tourists top favourite, the Chilli Crab.

Dessert

Before ending the meal for the night, make sure you hit the Dessert Table at The Peranakan Buffet at The Royale. Consisting a medley of Durian Desserts to wow the Durian lovers like myself

My favourite among the selection are the Durian Mousse Cake and the Golden Durian Pillow. Some commented that the former is far too light. Personally, I felt though it was light, I could savour the durian flavour. And it is a good start to whet the appetite before moving on to the stronger durian flavoured dessert, that is the Golden Durian Pillow.

Since it is Peranakan Food, an assortment of Nonya Kueh is at the dessert table too.

For non Durian Fan, or rather dislike and someone mentioned scare, whichever category you belong to, don’t matter, there are other choices such as Pandan Cake, Pandan Creme Brulee, White and Dark Chocolate Cream, just to name a handful.

Price

The Peranakan Buffet At The Royale is a dinner buffet available from now till 30 June 2017 on every Friday, Saturday and Public Holiday. It is priced at $48++ per adult and $24++ per child (under 12 years).

Update on 29 May 2017: The buffet has been extended till 26 August 2017.

Ala Carte And Set Lunch Option

For those who prefer the Ala Carte options and non-peranakan food, or maybe you are wondering what else is available and is recommended at The Royale, we tried 3 ala carte dishes.

Peranakan Buffet At The Royale At Mercure Singapore Bugis Hotel - Pan-seared char siew Rack of Lamb ($29.90++)

First is the Pan-seared char siew Rack of Lamb ($29.90++). Lamb is always highly contestable as it is not a meat whereby most would choose since it has an acquired flavour. But since this dish is with char siew flavour, the sauce was intense enough to mask any unwelcomed flavour. Since I like Lamb, I am not offended by the pungent flavour.

Alternatively, Oven-baked Alasakan Cod Fillet ($29.90++) is a dish highly accepted by many. As it has a piece of ham wrapped round the cod fillet, hence it is a quite salty.

Peranakan Buffet At The Royale At Mercure Singapore Bugis Hotel - Hokkien Prawn Noodles ($14.90++)

Lastly, the Hokkien Prawn Noodles ($14.90++). The yellow noodles absorbed enough of the prawn stock therefore it was a little soggy. However, the alkaline taste was still quite strong which I find it a pity. But the very least, it was masked by the chilli, hence it is a must for me to consume it with chilli.

On weekday, set lunch ($22.80++) is available to diners whereby they could select a Main (from the list) and get to enjoy free-flow of salad, coffee and tea.

NAHMJ Verdict

The Peranakan Buffet at The Royale has most of the typical, classic spread and my favourite among them all is the Durian desserts.
