Kebabs on the Grille 印度小厨 At Jinqiao, Pudong – Shanghai, China

Kebabs on the Grille is one of the few Indian Restaurants that I came across. The first was Bollywood, but I didn’t try. I had the opportunity to visit Kebabs on the Grille as it was suggested by a colleague who was bringing us for dinner. If I remember correct, Blue Frog, a Burger Restaurant, is in the same building too.

We went to the outlet at Jinqiao over at Pudong since that was nearest to us. It is located Biyun Leisure Sports Centre. Though it occupies both level 1 and 2, entrance is at the former.

Beginning with Sev Papdi Chaat (RMB 40). This is my first time trying Chaat. I was informed by my Indian colleagues that this is a popular street food. Assortment of ingredients such as onion, potato, tomato, yogurt and tamarind sauce are topped on a crispy fried dough. Personally, I enjoyed it as it is rich and extremely flavourful.

Kebabs on the Grille 印度小厨 At Jinqiao, Pudong - Mint Chutney

Accompanied with 2 sauce for the chicken, one of which is Mint Chutney which I prefer. The other, is a sweetish sauce.

Lightly flavoured Tandoori Prawns (RMB 130) grilled to perfection.

We got a Mixed Bread Basket (RMB 20) with various flavour. To accompany the bread, we got 4 curries.

Kebabs on the Grille 印度小厨 At Jinqiao, Pudong - Palak Paneer (RMB 65)

First was the Palak Paneer (RMB 65). The texture was smooth and creamy. Most importantly, it was tasty. The rendition at Kebabs on Grille was lightly spicy.

Kebabs on the Grille 印度小厨 At Jinqiao, Pudong - Daal Makhami (RMB 55)

Next was the Daal Makhami (RMB 55). This curry consists of black lentil cooked in exotic spices and tomato puree, ginger and garlic was a little too sweet and beany. I didn’t enjoy it. Perhaps due to absence of meat, it was not as tasty as it could have been.

Kebabs on the Grille 印度小厨 At Jinqiao, Pudong - Methi Chicken (RMB 70)

Among the 4 curry we tried, Methi Chicken (RMB 70) cooked in fenugreek suits my palate most. Texture was creamy with a good balance of spices. Chicken was tender and flavourful too.

Kebabs on the Grille 印度小厨 At Jinqiao, Pudong - Chicken Jaalfrez (RMB 70)

Lastly was the Chicken Jaalfrez (RMB 70). It was a dry curry with a rich tomato-based gravy. Since I am not a tomato fan, I didn’t fancy this as much.

NAHMJ Verdict
