Shook! Shanghai Restaurant, Winner of China Restaurant Week Spring Edition 2017 - From The Entrance

Shook! Shanghai Restaurant, Winner of China Restaurant Week Spring Edition 2017 – Shanghai, China

After every China Restaurant Week, there will be winners selected and then in turn they organise a Restaurant Week Spring Winners’ Edition 2017 from 23 March 2017 to 9 April 2017. At the China Restaurant Week Spring 2017, Shook! Shanghai bagged the Most Popular Award. After trying, I am not surprise at why it is so.

Shook! Shanghai is located at Level 5 of the arty farty Swatch Art Peace Hotel. Before getting to the seat, guest walks a long path with the wine vault on both sides, displaying their price collection for diners to appreciate. Perhaps it also served as a reminder to diners to place an order at the table.

The entire interior was rather dark with warm lighting and mainly black and white colour theme, with these, it created a romantic feel, well suited for candle light dinner.

Shook! Shanghai Restaurant, Winner of China Restaurant Week Spring Edition 2017 - Complimentary Bread & Butter

Complimentary Multi-grain Bread was served with 2 types of made in-house butter. Love the pillowy soft bread and it has a very nice aroma.

Shook! Shanghai Restaurant, Winner of China Restaurant Week Spring Edition 2017 - Salmon Tartare

Surprised by the number of choices Shook! Shanghai offers to diner for this special menu. Choices were Ginger Garlic Broth, Prosciutto And Spring Pea Crostini, California Baby Squid “A La Plancha”, Fores Mushroom Arancini and my  choice of Salmon Tartare. Fresh salmon tossed with jalapeno, wasabi, ginger oil with nori tempura. The flavours were extremely light and well compliment with natural sweetness of salmon savoured. Delish will be the word to describe though there wasn’t surprise factor to this delish.

Shook! Shanghai Restaurant, Winner of China Restaurant Week Spring Edition 2017 - Australian Beef "Bavette D' Aloyau"

Next is Main, there are Braised Shank Of Australian Lamb, Roasted Asparagus And Shiitake Mushroom Fettucine (a vegetarian choice), Pan Seared Fillet of Halibut “A Las Nicoise” and lastly, Australian Beef “Bavette D’ Aloyau” which I have choice Main. Steak was sliced into manageable pieces sat on sweet pea mousseline, touches of saba vinegar and paired with both roasted maitake mushrooms and snap peas. I like the overall combination but I can’t say so for the saba vinegar as it was too sweet for preference. The beef was tender with little fats and I like. Woody smokey flavour on the outer part of beef augmented the flavours.

Shook! Shanghai Restaurant, Winner of China Restaurant Week Spring Edition 2017 - Lemon Tart

Finally, dessert time, signifying the end of the meal with “Carrot Cake” Sundae, “Death By Chocolate” and Lemon Tart for selection. I rounded up with the last item mentioned. Lemon and Raspberry is combination is no surprise but with ginger, that got me excited. And surprisingly, it paired well.

NAHMJ Verdict

Overall, the food served at Shook! Shanghai is delicious and I like to describe it as a flavour that is generally well accepted and they go for the rather safe kind of flavours. Hence, I did not find any surprise factor in the dishes. Anyhow, I did enjoy the dinner.
