World Gourmet Summit – AOE 2017 Presentation Ceremony
World Gourmet Summit AOE is widely regarded as one of the most respected accolades in Asia that recognizes outstanding individuals in the regional F&B and hospitality industries. Each year, a number of exceptional F&B and hospitality brands and individuals, both established and emerging stars, will be nominated in five main voting categories: Chef Awards, Establishment and Hospitality Awards, Wine Awards, Industry Awards, Chef’s Choice Awards and Recognition Awards. This year’s AOE officially honored 39 outstanding professionals and establishments for their achievements and contributions made to the regional F&B scene.
In line with the growing F&B scene regionally, three new awards (Baker of the Year presented by Redman by Phoon Huat, Restaurant of the Year (Regional) presented by Bangkok Ranch Group and Restaurateur of the Year presented by Bangkok Ranch Group) are added to recognize more individuals and brands that are fueling the progress in the regional F&B industry. The following visionaries also received awards for their efforts in the on-going development of the F&B industry:
- LUZERNE Everyday Best Table: Mr Leong Khai Git, Owner of ALATI
- Hospitality Stars: Mr Patrick Fiat, General Manager of Royal Plaza on Scotts
- Lifetime Achievement: Chef Eric Teo and Mr Lee Loong Sheng
At the ceremony, I was thrilled to be able to catch glimpses of celebrity chef, Chef Eric Teo (not featured here) and my favorite pastry chef, Chef Kenny Kong (featured above), both of whom won awards at this year’s AOE. Congratulations!

World Gourmet Summit Opening Reception 2017
This year, the World Gourmet Summit intends to “Unite the World with Food” by running WGS 2017 as the United Nations Gastronomic Assembly (#UNGA). At this gourmet assembly, chefs from more than 16 different countries will gather in Singapore to bring us exciting gastronomic events. This gourmet assembly began with an opening reception featuring a gigantic buffet spread presented by top-notch restaurants, hotels with wine and partners like One Farrer Park Hotel and Spa, Punjab Grill, Patara Fine Thai Cuisine, Indochine, BOCA, Alati, Wooloomooloo, Lee Kum Kee and more. Priced at only S$88++, the WGS Opening Reception is an annual one-night-only dine-and-wine event that gourmands shouldn’t miss.
Below are some of the food an drinks served at WGS 2017 Opening Reception at One Farrer Park Hotel and Spa.
While savoring lots of delicious food and drinks, I also had the chance to meet some of the special guests invited to Singapore for the World Gourmet Summit festival. One of those who left the deepest impression on me is charming Canadian chef, Chef Quentin Glabus, who prepared a Canadian Red Fish dish for the opening reception.
WGS 2017 has begun its run on 20 March 2017 and started its 2nd week with the AOE Presentation Ceremony cum Opening Reception. It will continue to dazzle us with other specially curated gastronomic events until 16 April 2017. To browse the events calendar, refer here.
