Saveur Restaurant @ Far East Plaza, Value For Money Meal – Orchard, Singapore

I visited Saveur Restaurant @ Far East Plaza with a friend before our bubble tea treat at Yuan Cha. Saveur has been around for quite a while. Their first outlet is at Purvis Street and it still exist today. I visited them a while ago with some colleagues and tried almost their entire menu back then. They have expanded since then which is a good news. Back then they were known for affordable French food. Today, though prices increased, it is still very much wallet friendly compared to the rest of the French restaurants.

At the Far East outlet, the ambience looks more romantic, as the lighting is dim. The entire feel is casual, it doesn’t has the out of reach vibe.

Saveur Restaurant @ Far East Plaza - Saveur's Dinning Area

As usual, started our meal with appetiser. First was the Saveur’s Pasta ($4.90). The Angel Hair pasta though looked dry when served but it was all right once you give it a good toss as the liquid settled at the base. The key is to eat it with the dried shrimp which provides a layer of flavour to the otherwise boring pasta taste.

Saveur Restaurant @ Far East Plaza - Duck Salad ($6.90)

Next was the Duck Salad ($6.90). Various key ingredients were added to flavoured the salad. First is the duck that tasted like the Chinese Wax Duck gave the briny and meaty dimension. Followed by the orange and the vinaigrette that both emitted the sourish and fruity taste to whet the appetite.

At every French Restaurant, the Duck Confit seems like a must hence we went for Saveur version Duck Confit ($14.90). Personally I find the fork-tender duck meat a little to salt even for someone who has high salt tolerance with lightly crispy skin. It is interesting that they added oranges by the slice to wash down some fattiness, I suppose. The mash potato was smooth and tasty.

Saveur Restaurant @ Far East Plaza - Seabass ($15.90)

Seabass ($15.90) was fresh with minimum of salt to lift the flavour of the fish. Somme may lament that the skin isn’t crispy but I am fine with it as I don’t eat the skin. I didn’t like the potato, it is too soggy and mashy.

Saveur Restaurant @ Far East Plaza - Pistachio Panna Cotta($7.90)

Ended with the only dessert, Pistachio Panna Cotta($7.90). Pistachio flavour was a little too light though it has a smoonth and creamy texture for the Panna Cotta. Luckily, lots of pistachio pieces were added to increase the pistachio intensity.

NAHMJ Verdict

Food at Saveur Restaurant @ Far East Plaza maybe at wallet-friendly prices, however there is room for improvement even though we shouldn’t compare it with the standard of the high-end French Restaurant since it is at such a price range.
