Sufood has been innovating and creating new vegetarian dishes every now and then to give diners a fresh perspective of vegetarian. This round Sufood introduces New Salad And Truffle Dishes to their 8-course dinner set menu. And a new dessert was also added. Of course with new dishes added, some existing dishes will have to give way.
Sufood Introduces New Salad And Truffle Dishes
Per the last dinner set menu, it was reduced from the original 8 courses to 7. Now they have added it back, providing an appetizer consisting of Seaweed and shredded root with a plum sauce. This is surely an excellent appetizer as the plum sauce does whet the appetite for more dishes on its way.
The 2 ever-popular appetisers, Rosemary Breadsticks and Mulberry Juice Vinegar are still on the menu.
Salad
Out of the 3 salad available on the menu, 2 were new. First is the Mix Fruit & Vegetable Salad which I opted. It was with a creamy blueberry salad dressing. I thought it was unique. Together with apple, watermelon and pineapple, it was refreshing. The raisins added sweetness to the dish too.
The alternative is the Caesar Salad. This caesar salad has unusual ingredients such as walnut, cherry tomato, raisin in addition to the lettuce. Choices of either the Caesar dressing or BBQ dressing is available.
Otherwise, opt for the Macadamia Fruit Salad.
Soup
A total of 3 soup was available for diners to choose. The latest addition is the Cream of Wild Mushroom Soup with Black Truffles. The truffle fragrances vapourises instanteously when the lid was lifted. A pity, we could savour the truffle. Hence was quite disappointing. However, I still like the flavour of the mushroom soup. Importantly, it wasn’t overly creamy.
2 other options were Cream of Pumpkin Soup and Burdock Root and Cashew Broth. The latter is a clear soup.
Mains
Grain Rice with Mushroom & Truffles is the only new dish introduced to the Mains category. Yes, yet another truffle item on the menu. Unlike the soup, I could savour more truffle flavour but the amount of truffle paste wasn’t enough for the entire rice. I only manage to mix it with half the portion. Personally, I find the texture a little soft.
An alternative rice dish offered on the menu is the Zesty Oyster Mushroom Stone Pot Rice.
The Lion’s Mane Mushrooms with Black Pepper Sauce introduces in the last menu is retained in this 2017 menu. Together with 2 of their long-standing dishes, the Star Pizza and Lucky Clover Pizza. 2 pasta dishes, White Ferula Pesto Pasta and the Wild Mushroom Charcoal Tagliatelle.
If you like neither pizza, pasta or rice, opt for Baked Potato Funghi.
Dessert
The Tiramisu is more than decent. It has the perfect ratio of mascarpone cheese to coffee and sponge. Except that it is lacking of alcohol. Otherwise, it would have been flawless.
There are 3 other items for selection. First is the, Roselle Jelly Yogurt, my favourite dessert. Next is the Crystal Beancurd Pudding and followed by the Vanilla Ice Cream with Chocolate Cake.
The last course is a beverage with 3 cold mainly fruit juice and 3 hot (tea or coffee) for selection.
Price
Priced at $39.80++ per person for the 8-course dinner set. We noticed a significant increase in the price from the last menu which was 7-course at $29.80. At that 7-course, it was lacking of the seaweed and root appetizer (first dish in this post).
NAHMJ Verdict
We like the idea of Sufood Introduces New Salad And Truffle Dishes and especially the truffle dishes. A pity the truffle flavour was too light and we 2 truffle dishes, an increase of almost $10 to the set was quite a significant increase. And for diners who don’t order these 2 dishes, might find the pricing a little too steep.
