A Shanghainess suggested me Bianchi & Bella Ciao, an Italian Restaurant at Tianzifang during my late February, early March trip. Since I didn’t have time to do any homework as the trip was a pretty last minute, I decided to go along with the recommendation.
It isn’t difficult to find Bianchi & Bella Ciao, since not far from the entrance, I could spot the obvious signage on my right.
The building looks very much like a historical house. Upon entering, the structure does resemble one. Even the design suggested the same. Entire ambience was cosy and warm.
Menu has all the typical Italian offering which include Pasta and Pizza. And some familiar appetizers too.
Having craving of cheese, I turned to the Buffalo Cheese, Avocado, Mixed Lettuce and Tuna Salad (CNY 88). Not the best option for appetiser but a pleasing one with lots of green. However, I was extremely disappointed with the quality of cheese. Somehow at China, there isn’t a restaurant offering authentic high quality Buffalo and Mozarella Cheese.
Spotted the Spagheti with Pink Sauce and Half Lobster (CNY 188), since I couldn’t resist the charm of this crustacean, I got to order it to satisfy my temptation. Strangely, pasta texture was unusual, I wouldn’t describe as al dente, but hard. Lobster was fresh with sweetness of the sea emitting. Though it was tomato base, I could accept it.
My original order of Tiramisu was not available as such, turning to my second choice, Truffle Semifreddo (CNY 48). Strength of truffle was relatively high. The entire dessert feel was akin to frozen cream.
Perfect Peach (CNY 48) was absolutely apt name for the drink. It tasted the way the name indicated.
NAHMJ Verdict
Based on the 3 dishes I tried, I thought the food at Bianchi & Bella Ciao was decent though not necessary authentic. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable dinner.
