The famous Cream Bun by Hattendo Cafe has finally landed at Tanjong Pagar Centre, opposite Japan Rail Cafe. Many might have heard the raving of these Japanese Cream Bun and might like myself wonder how good could bun be.
Hattendo Cafe is a brand with 80 years history founded by Kaoru Morimitsu. He created these delightful Cream Buns and have revised the recipe over thousand of times to achieve these prefect Buns. These Cream Buns created by Hattendo Cafe are a hybrid of “Bun” and “Sweet”.
Interior of the cafe are relatively simple with dinning tables and chairs by two wings. The ordering counter is directly facing the entrance.
Five Flavours of Cream Bun are available with choices of Matcha, Custard, Whipped Cream, Azuki and Chocolate. Each Cream Bun is at $2.50. If you like to have a Cream Bun with a Drink that’s $5. The drink choices are Long Black Hot, Ceylon Tea Hot or soft drinks.
It comes in a box when 5 Cream Bun were purchased. But there isn’t a special price as such it is $12.50 for a box of 5.
After unwrapping, I saw the bun, “Nothing special” was my respond. But as I sunk my teeth into the bun, I found it to be extra fluffy and soft. The pillowy texture was a surprise.
Filling was light in flavour, nonetheless, sufficient to savour. Good balance between all elements was attained.
Other food available is the Mason Jar Salad which I have yet to try.
NAHMJ Verdict
The Cream Bun served at Hattendo Cafe is indeed delish as a tea break snack or even breakfast. But I wouldn’t queue for more than 15 minutes for them.
