Just Steam 纯蒸 is a Chinese restaurant offering mainly seafood for steaming. Most of us are fan of hotpot, now the Chinese restaurants are offering another method to enjoy fresh food in its natural goodness and self-cooking at the table.
When I arrived at the outlet, the PRC Chinese Restaurant vibes emitted right at the door step. Immediately, I labelled it one. To my surprise, this restaurant is owned by a Singaporean. He does have a PRC Chinese as partner. That explain why the decor is as such.
Sauce station at Just Steam isn’t as impressive as most Chinese Restaurant. Nonetheless, the key sauces such as the Sesame sauce is available.
For those who aren’t familiar with the required steaming time for the different seafood, there is a guide in Chinese only. Hopefully, they will come up with a English version soon.
Begin with cooking the Congee, for 2 reasons. First, Congee takes a long time to cook. Secondly, while steaming, the seafood juice will flow into the pot to cook the congee. As such, do remember to pace yourself so as to save some stomach space for this essence. You won’t regret having too much of them.
Expect a great variety of seafood such as prawns, lobster, shellfish such as scallops, oyster clams. All the seafood are fresh and succulent filled with seafood sweetness. No unpleasant seafood pungent detect. Not even for the oyster which commonly has this flavour especially after they were cooked.
Seafood alone is boring, hence there are a handful of meat items such as meatballs and pork belly. After all, Just Steam is a restaurant focusing on seafood.
Vegetables are also available for a balance diet.
For diners who need some carbohydrates to fill the stomach, there are 2 fabulous recommendations. First is the Glutinous Rice with Crab. The rice itself was already pre-cooked with seasoning and the key ingredients for the tasty rice is the Chinese Sausage was found among the rice. After steaming it with the crab, the juice from the crab elevated the taste further.
The other dish to die-for is the Signature Mee Hoon. This humble dish may look extremely unassuming. But do order and taste-test it yourself. It is superb. Thumbs up and only thumbs up.
Lastly, before you end your meal, don’t forget the essence. Uncover the lid that was used for steaming and grub down these rich and tasty congee. We do find the amount of rice used to cook them too little but the broth was too good to be missed. Do polish off the last drop too.
One of the best meal ever for those who enjoy seafood is at Just Steam though their price point might be higher than most who offer similiar stuff. It is certainly a pity for those who are allergy to these treasures of the sea. And don’t forget the Signature Mee Hoon.
