The Japan East Company, not only brought the convenience of ticketing Japan Rail ticket to Singapore through the collaboration with JTB, but they also imported a slice of Japan to Singapore through Japan Rail Cafe Singapore located at Tanjong Pagar Centre. This is their first venture outside Japan
Space at Japan Rail Cafe Singapore is divided to 3 areas; the cafe, Japan Rail Counter and merchandise sale.
Each month, Japan Rail Cafe plans to feature a different regions as such the menu and merchandise will change according to the theme. Being with Tohoku region as the featured, next expect Kanto, Hokkaido coming up next.
A two-page menu with about 30 items ranging from sides to mains and drinks. Some highlights in Dec 2016 menu are The Ultimate ABC Burger ($22), Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($19)
Various Japanese style rice dishes are available at Japan Rail Cafe too. At Japan Rail Cafe, they use 10-grain rice in their rice bowl. Some worthy selection were Kaisen Avocado Don ($18) and Twin Flavored Crispy Chicken Don ($16). Both with choice of soup, original or dashi and condiments such as mentaiko, seaweed and sesame side by the side. One could have it as Donburi or Ochazuke (add soup). We find that adding the soup into the rice enhances the taste.
I would usually avoid curry rice as it is usually a little too sweet but the WATASHINO Curry Rice ($18) which has a black pepper base and spices is a savoury version. In addition, what I really like about this dish is that minced meat were found in the curry. Those with heavy palate are in love with this dish.
Drinks such as Uji-Matcha Latte ($6.20), Kuromitsu Kinako Latte ($6.50) and Seasonal Yogurt Drink ($6.20) are available beside the Hand Drip Coffee ($4.50) and Cafe Au Lait ($5.50). Alternatively, tea, fruit juice and various beers are on the menu too.
In addition, Japan Rail Cafe Singapore has lined up with talks promotion Japan travel and culture on weekends. If keen, follow them on their facebook. Furthermore, the cafe encourage patrons to share their story about their Japan travel on the scrapbook board.
We thought it is in time for Japan Rail Cafe Singapore to be here as there is a growing interest on Japan travel among Singaporean.
