Tangkuban Perahu is a stratovolcano lies 30 km north of the city of Bandung, the provincial capital of West Java, Indonesia. Tangkuban Perahu means “up-turned boat”. It is spelled as Tangkuban Parahu in the local Sundanese dialect. Despite being an active volcano which erupted in 1826, 1829, 1842, 1846, 1896, 1910, 1926, 1929, 1952, 1957, 1961, 1965, 1967, 1969, 1983, and 2013, however, it is still a popular tourist destination.

 

Three craters are present at Tangkuban Perahu where visitors can walk round them. Namely, Kawah Ratu (“Queen Crater”), Kawah Domas (“Domas Crater”), and Kawah Upas (“Upas Crater”). Visitors will find hot geysers at Domas Crater and they could boil eggs in it.

Centre of attraction at Tangkuban Perahu is the huge crater, Kawah Ratu. Most focus are on this crater. Around the are thick visible ashes landing on the slope.

Entire sky view around the crater is a always grey. Since the volcano is active, it kept emitting ash and gases that may be harmful to human. As such, visitors are highly encouraged to wear a mask.

Due to the fertile ashes, greens are also slowing growing well on certain part of the crater.

 

Not far from the carpark, visitors will find a view point for a better sighting of the overview of the crater.
