For those who love the concept of Little Island Brewing Co., microbrewery-pub, located at Changi Village, the good news is, the team has created an infused beer concept, Alchemist Beer Lab. In addition, this beer lab is in town, at South Beach, conveniently nestled at Exit F of Esplanade MRT station.
When entered, attention was quickly drawn to the both the golden and coloured beer tower. And next, was the high ceiling. A pity, due to the open kitchen, I do smell like food at the end of the drinking session. It is wiser to take the al fresco seats.
At Alchemist Beer La, there are either the plain beer or if you are adventurous and love trying new creation, turn to the infuse beer. Personally, I love the infused beer since it masked some of the bitterness and offered sweet, tangy and fruity flavour. The infused beer get changed from time to time.
During our visit, the hot favourite among the infused beer was the Honey Trap. Though personally, I prefer the 50 Shades of Pink.
A good way to enjoy all your favourites is to get the Tasting Set of 4.
Beer with no snack is boring, hence Alchemist Beer Lab prepared a good menu of selection to accompany the beer.
First, two platters are availabe. Charcuterie ($18 small / $28 big) which was what we have, consists of iberico sausage, San Daniel prosciutto, chicken & black truffle ballotine, duck liver parfait with calvados jelly.
The second platter which we didn’t try is the Cheese ($18 small / $28 big).
Slow Cooked Pork Cheeks ($17) with crispy pig’s ear, sweet and sour red cabbage is a fork tender.
How could we miss out the chicken wings? Best with beer is the well marinated Sticky Thai Chicken Wings, 3 pieces ($10).
Equally outstanding was the Smoked Wagyu Brisket Tortilla ($18). Every ingredients on the tortilla complemented each other without masking any flavour.
If you prefer lamb, go for the Sumac Spiced Lamb Rack ($20) which we missed.
Ceviche of Goldband Snapper ($16) with tequila, lime and hot sauce jelly for the sashimi lovers.
OMG! The Mushroom & Truffle Croqouette ($17) was such an excellent dish. Crispy exterior with luscious creamy mushroom and truffle was heavenly. I can’t help but got a 2nd croquette immediately after my first.
Falafel ($15) is not for everyone due to the spices in it. You either love it or hate it.
Lastly the Duck Fat Fries ($12), a relatively huge plate meant for sharing.
NAHMJ Verdict
We like the concept of Alchemist Beer Lab, in particular the infused beer. And not forgetting the wonderful bar snacks. We will certainly order the Mushroom & Truffle Croqouette, Smoked Wagyu Brisket Tortilla, Sticky Thai Chicken Wings and Slow Cooked Pork Cheeks.
