Ninja Cut By Folks Behind Ninja Bowls – Bugis, Singapore

Yet another rice bowl cafe is up. This round is Ninja Cut opened by folks of Astronaut Group who is also behind Ninja Bowl at Duxton Road. They have taken over the space former occupied by SELA restaurant.

Lots of similarity between the 2 cafe observed. In terms of offerings on the menu with rice bowls, brunch, tea and they provide the same coffee from Tiong Hoe. And the interior designs were looking the same too; both interior and at the door step.

Ninja Cut By Folks Behind Ninja Bowls In Bugis, Singapore - A view of the cafe

Menu is limited to 10 rice bowls. I vaguely remember that the ingredients were different from the ones at Ninja Bowl. 7 Brunch items, with Yoghurt & Granola also offered at Ninja Bowl. In addition, I noticed that Ninja Cut uses similiar ingredients that were in the rice bowls. This is the same approach of Ninja Bowl. Like their sister cafe, they too offer 4 Bites items and some desserts & Sweets.

Out of the 10 bowls, there are selection of beef, chicken, pork, cod, tuna, squid and salmon and vegetarian option ranging from $14 to $18. Add $3 for Quinoa, $2 for ninja rice, soba or garden greens. I opted for the Waikiki Surf ($16) with Quinoa ($3). It was a tasty and healthier option bowl. It would be perfect if more bacon bites were added.

Ninja Cut By Folks Behind Ninja Bowls In Bugis, Singapore - Marvellous Matcha ($16)

One of the highly raved about item at Ninja Cut is Marvellous Matcha ($16). We too would highly recommend this dish but only if it is for sharing. The matcha flavour was rich and intense. I didn’t expect matcha to go well with orange peels. With the mochi, it provided an additional texture. The setback is that this item is cloyingly sweet. The matcha lava, the pancake, the candied orange, the red bean and the cookie butter crumble were all contribution to the sweetness of the dessert.

Ninja Cut By Folks Behind Ninja Bowls In Bugis, Singapore - Pomegranate Oolong ($7)

Using ninja blend consisting of Colombia La Manuela, Guatemala Flor De Rosario and Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Aricha, for the espresso based coffee with 6oz with milk ($5), 8oz with milk, and various others. Perhaps the more exciting among them all is the Sparkling Orange Espress. For tea, there are Pomegranate Oolong ($7), Earl Grey Imperial ($7), Chamomile ($7) and Raspberry Nectar. All were served exactly like how it was done in Ninja Bowl.

NAHMJ Verdict

Food served at Ninja Cut though may be considerably above average, too much similarity between their sister cafe. As such there isn’t any element of surprise except for the Marvellous Matcha.
