The Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) has organised the Urban Kampung carnival with The Ultimate Satay Challenge 2016 held on 22 October 2016 at Queen Elizabeth Walk (former location of the old Satay Club). The carnival aimed to foster understanding towards Islam and the Malay-Muslim culture through various activities, as well as unite Singaporeans through our common passion for food.

Haron Satay is the winner for both the Best Satay Meat and Ultimate Satay award. They were my favourite satay stall among the 8 too. As the satay meat were tender with a little char flavour. Most importantly, the meat was well marinate in a good and balance mixed of spice. The peanut sauce augmented the flavour with the lightly sweet peanut flavour.

The extremely reddish peanut sauce shocked me as I did not expect it to be so. So much for the look, this sauce won the Best Satay Sauce award. Beside the colour, the sauce was spicy and strong in peanut flavour. Little wonder why they are the best.

Personally, I find Salim Satay Inc. extremely disappointing. The meat was a tad tough, marinate remained on the surface. Lastly the sauce was a little too diluted in flavour.

While the Jamil Sate Sauce shocked me, Satay Power 6 shocked me with its red satay. Each satay has a piece of distinct fat meat. Meat on stick though was well marinate but overall was a little too sweet and chewy.

The meat on the Kam Satay is rough and a tad tough with strong tumeric flavours while sauce was mainly sweet, lightly spicy with weak peanut flavour.

Though the satay has a nice spice and herb marinate but it was too tough. The lightly sweet sauce did not stick to the satay and somehow didn’t complement well. I rather eat the satay alone without the sauce.

Flavour of the tough meat satay from Hungry Bazterdz was with a modern twist. And the marinate for the chicken stick again was only on the surface. Overall, the savoury hint didn’t complement the sauce.

Last but not least, at The Ultimate Satay Challenge 2016 was The Ugly Duckling. Their selling point is the special Duck satay. I thought it was refreshing. The texture is inclined to smoked duck. While Beef satay did get much marinate; I didn’t enjoy. The sweetish peanut sauce has chunky peanut pieces. Overall texture of sauce was rough.
