Epiphyte Cafe At Neil Road In Tanjong Pagar, Singapore - Garden Corner

Epiphyte Cafe At Neil Road – Tanjong Pagar, Singapore

Along Neil Road, it welcomes Epiphyte, a cafe opened right after Apiary Cafe operated. In case you are wondering what’s Epiphyte means. This is a termed I learned at my Biodiversity Biology classes. Epiphyte are plants that grown on another plant in symbiosis.

Interior looks raw but cool. I like the Arts and the plants combination that are in place in the cafe.

Among the handful of pick for Mains, the first that attracts is the Pink Risotto ($22). It is indeed pink when served. The entire plating looks too pretty to dig in. Beetroot is the key in the colour. The risotto was rich, flavourful and creamy which is well tailored to my heavy palate. The beetroot provided an additional texture the dish. Even though I am not a beetroot fan, I enjoy the dish.

Other recommended Mains by the Ephiphyte are Seafood Cartoccio ($28) for seafood lovers. The portion is good for 2 to share. Alternatively, opt for Baked Salmon ($25). And for a local infused flavour, Pasta Prawns ($22) is a good selection. For non-seafood diners, go for the Chicken with Indonesian Spices ($21) instead.

Desserts are the highlight at Epiphyte. There are 2 desserts which have been appearing on Instagram accounts frequently since they opened on 1 October. First is the Terrarium ($8, add $3 for rum) consisting of microwave rum sponge, chocolate soil, fresh mint custard and apple compote. At a glance the sponge reminded me of the green portion of the dishwasher sponge or closer to plant biology, they look like mosses.

Rum is the key to augment the flavour. Otherwise, when eaten without, it will reduce dinning experience.

Twilight ($10) is another desserts at Epiphyte that attracted lots of attention. Many described is as Galaxy looking. Instead, I thought it is simply a manifestation of an Arts piece, beautifully created.

This edible Arts comprises of Cointreau orange curd, chocolate sponge and chocolate mousse. In a nutshell, it tasted like Alcoholic Orange Chocolate. We enjoyed this cake more than the former.

NAHMJ Verdict

We thought well of Epiphyte. It is one of the rare cafe that serve both delish desserts and Mains. Even the coffee was more than decent. We hope Epiphyte will continue to maintain its standard if not better.
