Paper Crane doesn’t have any attractive looking decoration nor would one associate it with as hipster. Instead Paper Crane is a plain jane that offers everything practical and modest. To make its suitation worse, Paper Crane is hidden within the shelter of Singapore Women Council Organisations (SWCO). Hence most might not even be aware of its existence of this humble cafe with delish food.

 

The cafe has a rather tiny indoor space which is mainly used by the kitchen and the counter. And it has a bar table with seats facing a glass window for people watching while enjoying the food. I thought these seats are great for solo diners. Otherwise, opt for the non air-conditioned seats which has black round table and black chairs.

 

 

Menu is kept simple at Paper Crane cafe with a handful of Mains and few appetizers. They are mainly solid comfort food for the soul.

 

 

I tried the NZ PS Cap On Grilled Striploin (250g) with salad and fries ($25). When I saw the plate, I was skeptical about how good it will taste. When The first mouth of steak “Wow” me as it has the perfect amount of salt to cook the steak. And I have to give the fries a mentioned too. It was fabulous. It has since been quite some time I last had some fries packed with potato flavours and with crisp exterior and soft interior.

 

 

The Southern Style deep-fried buttermilk chicken with fries and slaw ($15) has such a crispy exterior. A pity these crispy batter keep falling of the chicken meat when cutting. I like the chicken as it uses thigh meat and not chicken breast. Personally, I would prefer a little more salt, though I think most would find the taste acceptable. And there is a small dish of chilli on the plate to go with the chicken, I thought it was great since Singaporean like chilli sauce. Like the fries in the steak, it was worth the calories.

 

 

I tried a Pineapple concoction and Watermelon with rosemary syrup and soda ($4). Pineapple concoction was refreshing and lightly sweet but I didn’t like the pineapple blended particles in the drinks.

 

 

 

Watermelon with rosemary syrup and soda ($4) was a typical watermelon juice. A pity the flavour was flat as I could savour neitherr the rosemary fragrance nor feel the fizziness of soda.

 

 

NAHMJ Verdict

 

The food served at Paper Crane doesn’t come with frill. It is unpretentious instead full of genuine and sincerity. And even though it doesn’t has the typical cafe vibes, what it offers is a quiet environment with delish food.
