Gemmills Cafe And Wine Bar - An interior view

Gemmills Cafe And Wine Bar – Telok Ayer, Singapore

Gemmills is another establishment like Maggie Joan’s who has Amoy street as its address but you won’t find the entrance along the stated street. Instead, diners has to find their way to the  back alley and entered via the “back door”. And Gemmills is side by side with Maggie Joan’s. Now we have another one which may put diners on the hunt for its entrance.

It is interesting to see how the dinning scene evolved; offering perhaps same food but with a different ambience such as entering via the back alley.

As the door opened, I see a disparate difference from the exterior. It was bright and sunny but in there was dark and almost like a cold dungeon. Or rather a dark drinking hole as my sight was filled with wine bottles on the right. That sight was contributed as I visited Gemmills on a sunny late morning.

Interior was certainly not impressive. It is with numerous homongenous round marble tale and some Peranakan-like wooden dinning chairs similar to those that of my paternal grandmother owned. While at a corner was some aged-old English looking sofa chair. And on the shelves were antiques looking ornament. I suppose the owner wanted to reminisce some good old days of the past. All in all, in my opinion, the place seems like a good old coffeshop in Europe style.

Gemmills Cafe And Wine Bar - Assorted Tarts

What Gemmills offers for food are simple delicacies. On its menu are tarts of the day ($10), Chickpea Salad ($10), Cake, selection of cheese ($10), Focaccia Bread and Quiche. These sounds like my favourite.

Over to the drinks, wine is the main draw. Not sure exactly how many labels Gemmills offered, but easily a handful of dozen. If wine aren’t your choice, other drinks include the juice and coffee and tea.

Gemmills Cafe And Wine Bar - Quiche

I went for the Quiche. The quiche was with some pepper like vegetable, onions and I like there were ham as well. It was served with a simple vinaigrette salad.

Gemmills Cafe And Wine Bar - Cappuccino

Cappuccino was my usual order. It seems Gemmills uses a dark roast bean for the cuppa. Hence it was a cup with full body, low acidity and nutty hint.

NAHMJ Verdict

Gemmills seems to be a good place to catch up with some friends or colleague over a good glass of wine pairing it with a good platter of cheese and some food.

Since it is extremely causual, so sit back, relax and enjoy at Gemmills.
